Please, please check this out.... HR 7078

Are you familiar with HR 7078, introduced to the House in late September?  It ask for funding for education and research for autoimmune disorders....

"To increase awareness of and research on autoimmune diseases, which are a major women's health problem, affect as many as 23.5 million Americans, and encompass more than 100 interrelated diseases, such as lupus, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's syndrome, polymyositis, pemphigus, myasthenia gravis, Wegener's granulomatosis, psoriasis, celiac disease, autoimmune platelet disorders, scleroderma, alopecia areata, vitiligo, autoimmune thyroid disease, and sarcoidosis, and for others
Bill # H.R.7078"

there are several links on line that will help you to contact your congressman about supporting this bill - I hope you will take the time to speak up in support.

If you go to the following link it will allow you to put in your zip code and come up with the contact informatin for your congressman - you will still have to write your own letter...congress.org/congressorg/issues/bills/?billnum=H.R.7078&congress=110&size=full

Be well and be proactive!
Lulu

Ps be sure to ask all your friends to write as well.... I already got an autoreply back from my congressman, so the above link does work to write a letter.

Thanks for posting this information.  I have been spreading the word about this bill and I am going to attempt to do whatever I can.  The bill does explain the basic problem of recognizing an autoimmune problem and if doctors are educated through the provisions of this bill, patients can save money and countless trips to doctors before getting the help needed.

It's a step...small...but a step.

Thanks Lulu.

The other major thing that disappoints me with this bill is it targets autoimmune diseases as a woman disease, and we know full well that men suffer as well from MS, Lymes, RA, Crohns, the list goes on....  But at least it is a beginning.  Perhaps the next effort will include more $$$ and people.
Regardless, we need to be vocal about this and let our representatives know that there is a real need for funding research and education.  It doesn't matter what your politics are, I think we can get behind this one 100%.

Get loud,
Lulu

Hi all.  LGK54 thank you for digging this up...for this is news to me.  I'm actually now in the process of setting up meetings with several elected officials on this bill to let my feelings known.  While this is great news that autoimmune diseases are on the radar, the funding in the proposed bill is quite underwhelming...especially when the estimated costs associated with most of the diseases is outlined in the bill.
