Please help me narrow down some possibilities...

I was just wondering if anyone could help me. I'm so depressed and exhausted with research on what is wrong with me. Last month I was on my period for a month straight which caused a lot of fatigue and tiredness. Right about the same time as my period had just began, I went to gymnastics (I was on my college team), and the next morning I had fever, chills, and muscles spasms/ pain.... but not like a normal workout soreness, I promise. Six months prior, I did VERY light leg exercises, VERY VERY light. The next day, I couldn't walk. My legs were stuck in a tensed up bent position and I wasn't able to walk or straighten my legs for a week. Back to present times, I stopped my period about a week and a half ago, and have been taking iron for the large amount of blood loss. I started feeling much better, but on the 20th... 3 days ago, I started experiencing numbness down the entire left side of my face, neck, and sometimes chest, arms, and hands. It's all mainly on the left side, but I feel like this morning my right side of my face is becoming numb too. I've experienced a little nausea, and a lot of dizziness. My husband and I just moved and he thinks I might have pushed my self too much and pinched a nerve. I don't feel like I did. It doesn't make sense with my other symptoms. I went to a chiropractor yesterday, but I don't feel any different. I feel the exact same, if not worse today. I had two glasses of wine on the 19th, and I thought maybe that that effected me, because I never ever ever drink and maybe my body is not used to it, but after three days, it still persists. I've been on Lexapro for anxiety, and I've read that anxiety can cause numbing. I've also been on Orthotricyclin low. I have no idea what is going on. Someone please let me know if they have any clue or related symptoms.

Hi everyone! Here's an update. I decided to go to the doctor today about 1 pm. She said that because I'm taking Lexapro, some people have reactions like I am experiencing. As far as the legs, I went months ago, and my doctor said she wouldn't worry about it, that I probably was working out too hard... which I wasn't... so I didn't get a good answer there. I also talked to her about my period, and she said to wait it out and gave me iron tablets and wants to see if my next cycle is normal due to being on birth control. I had a normal pap. I went today for those issues I've described above, and she gave me an EKG, which turned out normal and did several neurological tests, which turned out normal. She wants to try me on a different anxiety medication and wants me to return in a few days. I will keep you all updated. I'm terrible at looking up symptoms online, and over the last few years MS continues to appear for different symptoms. This is why I wanted to ask you first had if any of this sounded familiar. I'm anxious to see if it persists after changing medicines. Thanks for all of your responses.

You haven't mentioned if you saw a doctor or not.   Actually, you need to see your primary care doctor and a gynecologist. Why did you have a period for one month? If you couldn't straighten your legs for a week? wouldn't that prompt you to see a doctor. If your having numbness in the face have your doctor rule out Bell's Palsy. Please see a doctor because you want to nick this, the sooner the better. I hope you get some answers and get well.

I had a pinched nerve for three and a half years according to my neuro.  Of course, it wasn't a pinched nerve but MS.  It's too long of a story for here.  You will find that so many of us, our stories each different, have searched for answers for years.  Sometimes the symptoms don't match MS.  Mine sure didn't.  My biggest complaint was lower back pain that never stopped.  Some of your symptoms do match.  Some don't.

So where to start?  I would start with my PCP.  I would hope she recommends a good neuro to do an exam.  I would take the lead telling her of your concerns...especially the numbing and dizziness.  If that neuro can't give you an answer that makes sense get scooting to another neuro for a second opinion.  Listen to what your intuition tells you.  I think that is where many of us failed.  We stopped listening.

Hi and welcome.  The fever and chills that you are describing sound more like a germ to me, but I am no doctor.  You were in the gym where other people also workout and I assume that the germs we have here with cold, flu, etc are at your town, too.  :-)  You may have siimply picked up a viral infaction, that is amplified in its symptoms because of your anxiety.

That said, the leg problem sounds like a totally different problems- were you seen by a neurologist for an evaluation?  I would recommend that you request a very thorough exam.

be well, Lulu
