Hi, again.  What you are describing sounds like arthitis.  The most common kind, and you are old enough for it, is osteoarthritis OA (degenerative joint disease).  This is basically the joint disease of aging for some people.  It doesn't show up on blood tests and you have a normal sed rate with it.

Since your hands are stiff and painful in the mornings it would make sense to get Xrays of your hands.  These would show the characteristic changes you see with OA.

Why did you have to have a cervical fusion?  Did it have anything to do with degenerative changes in your neck or cervical stenosis?

I have the morning stiffness that you describe, especially in my fingers.  Mine is due to OA and began when I was 36.

If this is OA, then there is a supplement that you can take that often relieves the pain of OA and can slow its progression.  It has been studied in true scientific fashion and does work for most people to some extent.  There are three supplements that are often taken together but the combination has not been shown to work better than the first two by themselves - each used alone

Glucosamine sulfate
Chondroitin sulfate
MSM

I take these and when I do (I'm terrible about remembering pills) my hands are much less painful.

This is just a guess and a suggestion for what you could be looking at.  Of course, the pain and stiffness you have might also be related to last year's surgery.

Good luck, BTW do you have MS?
