Pls. explain feeling in legs

Pls. explain feeling in legs

Lately whenever I put my feet up, I can't stay seated that way for long, have to get up and move around. And I can't sit for too long no matter what the chair/couch. Have to get up and work it out within 30-45 minutes.

So yesterday I feel like I have to stretch my legs out as far as they can go. Again and again and again, for HOURS. It was the most annoying and exasperating feeling. This has me curious. Whatever is it? And usually a stretch is a nice and wonderful feeling, like a cat, ahhhhhh, stretch it out, don't you feel better?

NO!

Flat out, it wasn't working and I want to know what was happening?

The next interesting thing is that while yesterday was so painful, today I feel great.

Any clues?

I think you're describing Restless Leg (Limb) Syndrome.  Go here and read about it.

See what you think.

First off, you didn't give a Mime Alert. LOL

Anyway; well, it's not as bad as on the site. Yesterday, I had that horrid feeling all afternoon into the evening. It didn't even compel me to walk, in fact, I stayed on the couch for 2 hours, a rarity for me. I just kept stretching my legs out. Then took an ibuprofen when I couldn't fall asleep at bedtime. I wouldn't even really say I have RLS.

And today I feel okay.

Never a dull moment.

I had something very similar happen to me many years ago. A month after the birth of my son, I would have that stretch feeling when I would walk around. It would stiffen up my whole lower half of by body and point my toes!  Several times it made me point my toes so hard it gave me a calf cramp!  I learned to force my feet to flex when I streched if I could at all.  it was the strangest problem. At first the stretching felt good, then it got very annoying. It completely went away after a few months. I never went to the Dr.  So I really don't know what would cause it. I chalk it up to muscle spasms.

About a month ago I woke up in the middle of the night with a Charley Horse in my left calf. I hadn't had those since my pregnancies, and my "baby" is now almost 16!

I know exactly what you mean when the stretching felt good, then gets very annoying. That was me yesterday.

What causes Charley Horses; I thought it might be a vitamin deficiency issue? I have been told to take a daily multi w/ iron, but I don't. I have a problem with gagging on pills.

Ever see Mary Poppins and she says a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down? It works! But can I really be chasing meds with sugar every day? So I don't bother taking them.

Hi Suzanne,
Do you drink orange juice daily or eat bananas??  They are both good foods to help with muscle cramps because of the potassium.  magnesium also helps if you want to look up food sources of that.  then you can avoid the pills.

Hi Elaine,

I do have the oj and bananas in the house, but don't eat/drink them with any regularity. I will make a point to do that, thank you! :-)
