Problems walking- links for articles on gait

by Sunnytoday, Oct 24, 2008 11:19AM
My walking is awful this week, I'm collapsing everywhere, so I was online looking at all the articles on gait disorders and how neuro's can watch you walk and diagnose you from there... which was fascinating.... (not my problems, the articles)

Oh, I was going to add, that I * think * from these articles that I have the steppage gait from my drop foot.

Also, as of this week, when I walk my upper body wants to twist to the right which is quite strange and disoncerting feeling (i stop and try to straighten out)... this is combine with all this extra falling, and my quads giving out and possibly swelling up, so I'm not sure what is going on. I canceled PT for the week and am coping. Yesterday I wasn't safe to walk so in the evening I had to just sit. :(

I wonder if the twist is because of spasticityin your back...  Yeah, sitting down is probably your best bet!

Thanks for sharing the links.  We're both having gait problems it appears, but keep practicing your walking and doing the exercises the PT wants you to do.  You need to exercise to keep your legs and arms from becoming spastic.  I learned the hard way when I thought I could just forget doing those "stupid" exercises.  I finally stopped thinking they were stupid when I could barely pick myself up off the floor.

Do you have problems with walking sideways?  I move forward, but after about 10 steps I start going at an angle.  It is funny for my kids and friends to see, but it isn't funny to me.  It is embarrassing.  I have to start going for job interviews soon and don't want to look like I've been to the bar for a few drinks on my way in.  So, lets both keep up our PT, agree?!!!
