Purple feet

hi all, I have got some suggestions about my purple feet, and I want to explain what is happening.

My right foot has been purple for some time, it has now moved up to a 2in. area on my shin, and  my left foot it also going purple, and I look like I have a purplish band around my ankle up to my shin.

It feels super cold inside, but is warm to touch, and my right foot swells up by nights end, and it hurts sometimes really bad.

My legs, and shins, are super shiny and feel really tight, and I don't really know what is going on.  It does not seem to matter if I am in my lazy boy chair and have my feet up, or not..   it is just happening.

Any ideas?

Candy

Thank you all for sharing with me.  I really appreciate it.

I will be going to the Dr. within the next week or so, as he is on holiday,

I hope it is not CRPS too, but whatever it is, it hurts, and I don't like it....

I will keep you all posted when I can, OK??

(((HUGS))) to all,
Candy

Oh, I need to add to the CRPS part of my last post:  hypersensitivity to light touch, moving air (wind/fans), and unusual hair growth in the early stages.  You would also notice extreme sweating, but only on the affected limb.   Later, as the condition progresses- bone becomes spotty, and the limb gets shiny, and atrophy begins.

I hope this is not what you have.

I have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome too.  The purple color of my right foot has spread up to just below my right knee.  So far, no spread to the other side (yay!!!).  This syndrome involves intense and intractable, burning pain- it doesn't sound like what you are experiencing.

Another possibility:  Raynaud's Phenomenon.  The cold you speak of sounds more like that to me.  You could also look into peripheral neuropathy.  My husband has that.  It is related to circulation problems too.  His feet are purple, and have very little feeling.

I hope you get it figured out.  Unfortunately, there isn't much in the way of treatment for any of these conditions.  (Believe me, I have looked!)

I've get puple feet too, I first became aware of it back in 08, one day at work one of the teachers freaked out when she noticed my feet were both purple, and i do mean purple! It kept happening but i didn't have pain or even discomfort, only the occational slight swelling but i really think the swelling was more because it was summer weather, the purple just made it more noticable.

Around 2010 everyone was starting to really freak out when ever they went purple, they also went a nice shade of patchy blue black. I also had a vein in my baby finger that would bulge out, blue patches suddenly show up in odd places, it was getting rather strange and i already had a heck of a lot of strange going on lol. I ended up taking photos because i couldn't predict when it was going to happen, photos with all the shades they went explained just how odd it was. My dr (recently change back then) had no clue but he was concerned about DVT's and sent me off to get ultra sounds.

The clinic i went to, had never seen anything quite like it either, I ended up having every vein and artery, in my entire body checked out. Coincidently they were doing the ultra sounds for a world wide study on MS, lost the name but its the stent one, i think it started with an 'L'.  A few thousand dollars later and i know there is absolutely nothing wrong with my veins or artery's anywhere lol not a one. Its all perfectly normal with no blockages, thinning, varicose etc etc. The conclusion if you can call it that, was there was no medical explanation for why it was occuring and they suspected, because there was no explanation, that my brain was causing a (autonomatic) disfunction.

So at the end, i still dont 'really' know why, but my feet change colour, and i blow superficial veins anyway. I do remember they expected to find narrowing or varicose veins, even though i didn't have the usual external signs, aching etc and they were suprised to find there was nothing, so based on the dr's expectations that I saw, i think you need to get it checked out.

Cheers..........JJ

You might try putting your feet up above your hips - elevate them so that gravity won't make it worse.

Thanks you two !!... I will be checking it out for sure, but not till after the 17th, our new Dr. is gone till then .

Jenn, I too have had pain behind my knee, but turns out to be a baker's cyst, and my right knee is now doing the same thing, though, I don't know if it is also a baker's cyst.

So, here we go, and wait, again....

The purple part is speading, and really shows up more when we have been on our feet, even for just a short time.... It is just the top of my right foot, and a spot on my right shin, and the left, my shin has a wrap around purple spot, like someone put on a bandage or something.  the top of that foot is starting to go reddish/purple .....

But, we will check it out,

Lisa, how the heck are you, I have missed you ......

Oh, yeah - blood clot could definitely be a possibility.  I had serious pain in my leg behind the right knee, and couldn't put my weight on it.  Turned out there was a clot behind the knee.

Candy, also make sure you don't have a DVT!  What I thought was CRP (what Jen said), turned out to be a DVT.  Don't mess around with this one - get seen sooner than later!

Whups, i meant complex instead of chronic.  Good luck!  All sorts of weird stuff pops up with MS, and this seems to be one of them.

thanks Jen, that is what Ren thought too, I'm gonna be doing some investigating, and see my GP and find a pain management person.

Hope you are doing well..,

Quix has had this problem - her doctor called it Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome.

Unfortunately, they have no idea what causes this.  But your description sounds very similar to Quix's.
