Quack for a doctor

by zzrrmg, May 06, 2009 09:22AM
Hi everyone,
Sorry it has been a while since I have been on, I need to vent again.  I finally had my appointment with the neuro, what an experience.  After waiting two months to see him, I was hoping for an anwer this time, I had worked myself up to accually see this one through, I have seen neuro's before but always canceled the appiontments after the mri was done, because I just didn't want to deal with it and usually it ( my sympoms) had gone away.
Well I went in and very boldly he said what are you here for without even looking at me, so I started to tell him my symptoms, and he cuts me off and tells me I have migrains, I looked at him and said no I don't, so he said I said it was migrains and you need to follow this diet and your problems will go away. Very confused at this point I asked how migrains make your leg go numb for weeks at a time? He told me again that the diet would fix it. I aked him about the electric shocks I get, he said that was not important, this went on as he told me most of my symptoms were not important and that this crazy diet would fix it.
Then he asked me about my family, so I let him know about my mother and my aunts who have been diagnosed with Hereditary cerebellar degeneration, and he perks up and says so what are you here for thats what you have!  So again I looked at him and told him that no I don't, and I explained that a study was done on my family and a team of doctors ruled me out for that years ago. So again he tells me to follow his diet and I will be fine.  No test, nothing just a crazy diet that he went through with me and could only find about 5 things out of about twenty that I even ate, he told me that I was lieing when I said I didn't drink milk, something that anyone who knows me would vouch for, iam lactose intolerant. Anyway I was wondering it anyone had heard of this diet and what should I do now?
THE DIET (things not to eat or drink)
orange juice
milk
cheese
yogurt
diet pop
gum
sea food
chocolate
ice tea
tomatoes
pasta sauces
red meat
grapefruit
I don't remember the rest
Thank you for listening yet again

It sounds like he's trying to put you on a macrobiotic diet, practically. If you have no stated history of migraines, then what is he basing this on? Run away from this person. He's not listening to you, he's not analyzing data, he's not treating you like a person in a doctor-patient partnership but is riding roughshod over you, refusing to hear, accusing you of lying without even knowing your history, and pushing his favorite diet off on you without a moment's consideration. See someone else. And write his governing board and cc him while you're at it.

Hi there,  welcome.

Is this guy a dietician? Did he test you to see if you were allergic to these foods and is now recommending you steer clear?

Of course if you feel better on a diet by all means go on one, but it doesn't sound to me by what you told us that this will cure anything.

I feel as if I would if you came on here and said your neuro said you could cure MS with a diet.

Welcome back - if you feel comfortable, please remind us all what you have been through...

see you around!

Sounds like you need to go to http://www.msneuroratings.com/ to find a new neurologist in your area.  Your MD had an agenda and it wasn't you!!  Hang in there.

If that is supposed to be a migraine-preventative diet, it's the weirdest one I ever heard of. Usually you will eliminate a bunch of foods including chocolate, certain types of cheese and wine, MSG, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head, but it does NOT sound like the diet you listed.

Doctors who don't listen to (and believe) the patient before making up their minds aren't real doctors. Doesn't sound like that guy was a real doctor!
