Question about eye pain.

Hi everyone.  One of my symptoms have been pain behind my left eye.  I can't tell if it's the eye that hurts or if it's just a pain behind it like a headache or something.

My vision hasn't been affected by it in anyways just an uncomfortable ache and pressure sometimes.  It makes me just want to shut my eyes.  Sometimes it's more painful then other times.  It was gone for at least a month, now this is my 3 rd day in a row it's bothering me again.

I went to an opthomologist last month for it and he said he wasn't concerned and it looked really healthy.  I asked for a VEP test and he laughed and said I don't need that.

Is this what optic neuritis is?  From what I explained about my eye is this real common with any of you that have been Diagnosed with MS?  If it's not optic neuritis can MS still cause what I'm explaining?

Thank you in advance as always!!!!

I get a "similar" pain upon awakening, it makes my eyes HURT, especially when exposed to light, then goes away in a couple of ours........Eye doctor said it was IRITIS and put me on steroid drops for a week, which did wonders.......

When I get the pain BEHIND my eye, it feels like intense pressure and then goes away in about 20 minutes, but happens several times a week and then won't happen again for months.

Sorry couldn't be of more help, but keep us posted!

It sounds like my eye pain.  I've had normal VEPs in both eyes.  I have been to a neuro-opth and to an optometrist and they couldn't find anything.  I'm seeing  a new neuro-opth in a couple of weeks.  I've had the pain for nearly a year.

I have had a couple of bouts of Optic Neuritis (ON) related to MS.  I get two or three days of icepick pain that is worse if I look laterally and then the vision tends to get darker and cloudier.  The brightness and contrast and sharpness just get turned down.  I also seem to get visible blind spots in my visual field if my right eye.  All "reds" just seem to look like a dusky purple to me.

Pain for a month would be pretty strange for ON.  Most ophthalmologists can't detect ON with an eye exam.  Some times the edges of the optic disk are pale, but demyelination deep in the brain usually doesn't show up in the eye itself.

Hi there, I'm Dx and I do get those type of pain behind my right eye, it comes and goes like yours.  It's not that painful... a dull ache, that won't go away... and always my right eye, But I do get blurry vision and it doesn't go away until the pain is gone, and it can last for a few days to a week or more.

I have been to a few Neuro Opthomologist and they say I do not have ON.  I've been told once by a Opthomologist when he looked into my eye with a light that my ON was pale and sent me for a VEP.... which came back normal, so they ruled out ON.

I haven't had the pain in my eye since last Oct, and my vision isn't that bad too.

I hope you find answers, sorry I can't help.  But your not alone with problem.
take care
