Question about leg weakness

In vestibular rehab today I had to stand with one foot somewhat in front of the other on squishy pads in the dark room with disco ball with the light shining on it sending moving squares all over the floor and ceiling.

My right leg became weak and wobbly; I kept finding myself putting most of my weight on my left leg, the one with the bad knee.  My PT kept reminding me to focus on the sensation of my feet supporting me so that my brain wasn't overwhelmed by the motion and lights on the walls, floor, and ceiling.

My right leg was shaking so bad that I could hardly stand by the time that exercise is over.  I mentioned it, and she said that it wasn't really weak, that it was some nerve thing or something; I was pretty wiped out by then.

My neuro exams haven't shown any weakness, but when this PT first evaluated me, she noted that when I stood balancing  on my right leg, it was very shaky and vibrating, not knowing why.

How accurate is "push your knee up against my hand" neuro exam test as a test of strength or weakness?

Has anyone else experienced shaky vibrating weakness like I described, yet have had leg strenght described as normal on exam?

Could this be from a lesion?  Either in my brain, or from the "maybe" lesions in my cervical and thoracic?

I can hardly wait to see my new neuro!

Anybody know what I'm talking about?

Kathy

well, Kathy so many of your symptoms sound just like mine...even the bobble head...movement from side to side...not always, just at certain times.  Dizziness after a shower.. legs shaky at time when I try to stand up from sitting.

I can't seem to get a confirm Dx... lesions all over the place...just not a Dx... even in the Corpus Callosum... ?

but then my LP, VEP, bladder ultrasound were all Neg... so maybe that is why...maybe my neuro exams doesn't show anything?  I know how frustrating this can be... I think if one of us get a Dx...it's a step forward.

take care

Kathy in PT doing balance exercises I was told to stand on one leg for 30 seconds then reverse and do the other. 5 times each.  In the beginning I couldn't do the exercise...to wobbly.  After a few months I got pretty good at it.  I was taught to find a point in front of me but not down and concentrate.

Then when I thought I have this down, the PT came over and talked with me while I was trying to do the exercise.  I was as bad as I was in the beginning.  I just can't get it with other stimuli that I have to concentrate on.  He says it is that brain.

Anyways still can't do it and I cannot even imagine trying to do it under the conditions you described.

Oh, I wish I had a neuro or neuro-radiologist that mentioned where my lesions were located!  Just the neuro-ophtha that noted the lesion on my pons...

All three neuro's I've had so far were pretty set on a diagnosis of small vessel ischemic disease for me, though since my new 3T MRIs, that should be thrown out of my differential diagnosis.  I don't think it ever should have been there; no predisposing factors.

Anyway, I'm undiagnosed, and trying to understand my symptoms.

My right leg got really weak and shaky when I was concentrating on keeping my balance with intense visual stimulation.

Otherwise, it has only shown the weak shakiness when I'm trying to balance on that one leg, or when I'm in a flare of symptoms and I seem to get muscle fatigue quickly.

Thanks for all the input!  I'm glad my shower has a grab bar, mostly because of dizziness, but if my leg started getting shaky in the shower, say if I tried shaving a leg while standing (sounds crazy to me!), then the grab bar would be realllly important!  :o)

Linda, I only have a bobble head when my tremors are really bad, and then it shakes from side to side.

jensequitur, I hope my new neuro will tell me where my (significant) lesions are.  Quix said he does very thorough neuro exams.  Keeping my fingers and toes crossed...

Sometimes I get right leg weakness.  My leg feels shaky, and my knee wobbly - it'll bounce back and forth.  When the neuro tests it, it bounces against his hand.  I have a lesion in my right cerebellum, so it's not surprising.

Well, I am not yet Dx but am definitely in Limboland, but for the past week or so, my balance AND strength of my legs have been VERY VERY off. The way you describe it is exactly how I describe it..definitely very shaky, and I HAVE to make sure that when I am standing up completely straight with no movement, that my feet are FAR apart, or else I just start swaying all over the place, and my legs feel like jello...its very odd. I go see the neuro. next week (2nd neuro). I do show right leg weakness in my neuro exam that my neuro. chiropractor assessed in me. He didn't assess this by making me push my knee into his hand, he had me lay down, and stood in front of me and tried to keep my leg from pushing his hand out of the way on my leg..both in and out directional wise, but the last quack neuro. I saw didn't seem to care...I have positive rombergs sign, left sided hyperreflexia, right sided leg weakness, and pupil defects when I am asked to follow the object with my eyes...

Anyways, I can relate...
