Question about lesions vs. symptoms

This is in the spinal cord. Will person with lesions on the spinal cord always have symptoms, or can they come and go?

I have lesions in my spinal cord and one lonely lesion on my brain.  One thing that has stayed throughout my battle is lower back pain.  It is like an open exposed nerve.  I have had other symptoms that come and go...like tingling in my hands and visual problems.  Right now I am fighting swallowing and breathing.  The good news is that it may be my thyroid!  They found a mass there.  Hoping it just needs to be removed and wasn't MS related.  Hoping!!!

Hey there!! Its funny, I  just had  a similar question regarding lesions and symptoms. CoBob just did a wonderful write up, he also informed me of a website to check out .

to Sumanadevii, I have constant lower back pain, but I also have scoliosis, so not sure if that may be my cause (its not a huge curve), I have not been dx'd with ms but I do have Graves Disease (hyperthyroid) and since treatment I now take synthroid. i hope that mass is nothing serious. take care pamela

I saw that question, but was asking because the neuro said if I had spinal cord lesions, the symptoms would be there all the time and not come and go. I do have a couple of symptoms below the neck that never go away. But many others do come and go. I'll go reread the topic and see if this has been addressed already or not. Thanks.

I don't think anything with MS is black and white.

My lesions are mainly on my spinal cord and I don't have any symptoms that are constant, knock on wood.

I think it is different from person to person as to how the lesions and symptoms will present themselves clinically.

Lesions can exist without any symptoms of that particular lesion.  Then again, you can have symptoms for a lesions that may not be visible on MRI.

I didn't think so, but thought I would ask in case spinal cord lesions acted differently for some reason.

My symptoms come and go for my spinal lesions. Like my intense tightness/spasms in the back of my thighs - those come and go. But I always have difficulty walking up stairs and up hills, so maybe that could be considered constant.
