Question about reflexes

I ended up with a trip to the ER earlier this week due to pain that I was having in my neck.  13 hours later, no explaination for my neck pain...but I did find out something out about myself that is either new or something that has been missed in the past.

I had been having left arm pain and numbness and when they checked my reflexes I was unable to flex my fingers out equally on the left side.  I also had weakness in my leg reflexes, (this was done after my hand and to be honest I was a little freaked out so I wasn't paying attention.  The ER doc just told me that it was there.)

I guess my concern, if anyone can answer is...
Does this weakness sound like a symptom of MS, I am getting getting frustrated that everyting I call my doctor with a new problem (last month I developed trig. neuralgia) she finds it some how related to migraines.

Thanks for the help, Jenn

I am still confused.  Your finger "adductors" (spreaders) are weak.  This is not at all unusual in MS.  Now are your knee "reflexes" weak or did you mean muscle weakness?

Much more intelligent response than I can give.  I am being taper off my topamax AKA dopamax (trouble with word finding, aphasia.etc.).  I sound completly stupid in all aspects of life, hard in my current position at work.  But makes me a hit at parties, haha

Oh, I seeee, yes I also have weakness in my hands.  I can't spread my fingers either.  I'm not sure if that is a symptom of MS or not but I'm pretty sure that weakness in the extremities is so I would say your hands are an extremity.

Now didn't that just sound so smart. haahaaheehee

For some reason everything is funny today.  No medicine change but I have played with my soon to be 1 year old grand baby all day and she can sure enough make me laugh.

I'll be praying,'

I guess mis-typed the "reflex", should have used weakness in the in description.  When the doctor has his hand wrapped around my fingers I was unable to spead them open on the left side only.

Thanks for the support, everybody.  I do appreciate it.

Sorry about having to go to the hospital.  That's never a fun thing.  I truthfully don't know how the reflexes normally act with MS, but I have hyper-active reflexes.  They jump a mile with just a little touch.  I was diagnosed with MS in August of 2007.  I know this isn't any help but I'll bump it up so someone else can respond.

I'll be praying,

Yes, weakness is a very common symptom of MS.  Even though I normally have brisk reflexes in my legs, my legs have been so weak that I actually had periods of absent reflexes in one leg.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

HUGS,
Heather
