Yes I have...via IV (very allergic to it) and once orally (b/c I was pregnant...chased it w/Benadryl).

It made me very weak and yes...VERY tired. Your body is (I'm assuming) fighting some sort of infection, which can make you tired and then you add an antibiotic and it can cause upset stomach which can make you feel tired too. It's kind of a non-winning battle. Just keep drinking plenty of fluids and take some probiotics if you can (like Culturelle or something). It keeps me from get a yeast infection and helps regulate the digestive tract.

I used Clindamycin  for MRSA.

Hope you get to feeling better soon!

I have heard other say that they get sleepy  or hyped from antibiotics and don't understand it.  I accept that it is happening to them, but don't understand why.

Please, Please also be taking some probiotics at least twice a day along with the Clinda.  One of the most severe possible side effects is the super-infection of a bacterium called Clostridium difficile.  The old name for this infection is Pseudomembranous Colitis.  This bacterium is a cousin to the one that causes gangrene.  This is a bloody, diarrheal infection that can be fatal, usually isn't, but can be.  And it is pretty common with any of the broad spectrum antibiotics used today, including things like high-dose amoxicillin.

There are many good probiotic supplements out there.  One that is well-studied in antibiotic-caused diarrhea is Lactobaccilus GG -brand name Culturelle.  If you're not lactose intolerant keep the yogurt with extra active cultures going down.

At the first sign of fever, bloody stools or significant abdominal apin, be seen by a doctor, mention that you are on Clindamycin and ask to be tested for "C. difficile" (See Deh Fee' sill).

   Hey there ;)

Are you using this to treat Acne?  This is commonly used w/ benzoyl peroxide to treat acne. This also used to treat infections caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria, including infections of the respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue infections.

And a couple other things to consider, If you are child bearing years Condoms or diaphragms may not work to prevent pregnancy. Use another form of birth control while taking this medicine and for 72 hours after treatment ends.

Also, because an antibiotic knocks out the Natural Flora in the body you may want to do a 2 day round of vagisil to prevent a possible vaginal yeast infection which could lead to an UTI. Also yogurt or Oral Pro-Biotics (Acidophilus).

Just a thought :)  Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

I so wish it was acne!  I am 60 years old..lol...but I read it does treat acne, too.  The last time I was put on 5x steroids, I just stayed so sick.  I was so weak with vision problems..the list just kept getting longer and longer.  Finally ouch!  A tooth began to ache and off to the dentist.  The infection was traveling.  Behind my eye, in my respiratory system...Now my vision is back to normal, I am swallowing better and breathing better.

How the infection got so out of control, I don't know.  I may have to have all my teeth on top pulled.  They are loose because of losing the bone?

I just wanted to check to be sure I should be tired.  I don't need another problem that I ignored too long.

Thank you

You may be fatigued because of the strain of fighting the infection.  That was a very serious and aggressive infection.  You may be wiped out for a long time.

Clindamycin is used "topically" to treat acne, not orally.

Please hit the probiotics.

Vagisil is not a great solution for a yeast infection.  The source of the yeast is the bowel which has an overgrowth of yeast with the antibiotic knocking the good beneficial bacteria out of balance and allowing the yeast to overgrow.  So, Vagisil alone can't keep the area from continually being re-inoculated.

Nooooo...I mean it with sincerity.  I feel relief to know it is why I am so tired.  I do not feel guilty for just being lazy.  You did not upset me at all.  You helped me to understand and relax.

Oopps, I meant to say using something like Monistat. Vagisil just stuck in the brain for some reason......Duh!

Yeast Infection Causes:

A change in the pH balance of the vagina or a change in your hormonal balance   weakens your system.

******* Antibiotics and other medications can suppress the “good” bacteria in the vagina, resulting in a yeast overgrowth. Steroid therapy can cause this too.
Read more about Antibiotics and Yeast Infections

Pregnancy and menstruation can increase glucose levels and/or alter the pH of the vagina so Candida can grow.

A weakened immune system can also result in yeast overgrowth.

Hope that clears it up a bit more for you :)

Feel Better,
~Tonya

I always have a mini-flare right after being sick.  This seems to happen three days after I get better from being sick - on the dot.

Thank you to everyone for your help.  I am just sleeping and not worrying now.  Chills are the latest to come but no fever.  Does it ever stop?  Seems like one big slope since I had that steroid infusion.
