Quix--Any similarities b/twn MS and Marfans?

Quix--Any similarities b/twn MS and Marfans?

I am in the process of being worked up for Marfan Syndrome. A complete surprise to me, but I do seem to have many of the signs. I have met with my PCP, an Ortho, and see the Cardiologist tomorrow, (Still waiting to see the Optho next week.)

My doctor sent me some material on MFS and it mentions CNS symptoms. I'm wondering if perhaps this could explain all the numbness, tingling, weakness, balance, and memory problems, etc. that I've been having over the past 7-8 years.

My PCP still thinks it's neurological, but so far my MRIs are good.

I know that MFS is rare, so maybe you won't have any input on this, but thought since you are a Pediatrician, that you might be familiar enough to want to comment.

Thanks, this is all a bit much for me right now.

Hi!

Wow!  That's an odd jump!  Such a rare disorder.  A friend of mine has Marfan's and I do know that one of the hallmark characteristics is that his "wingspan" is equal to or greater than his height.  Which is no small feat (or feet), because my friend is 6' 5" !!  There is a definite "look" to a Marfan's patient, as well, I'm told, tall, lanky and lean.  Unusually so.  His daughter is being tested now to be sure she doesn't have it.

The good thing is, although it can be very serious, it is also quite treatable.  If you are diagnosed with it, you can take medication to prevent the more serious heart complications.  This is how I understand it, anyway.

I am unaware of neurologic symptoms, but that doesn't mean there aren't any.  Men don't share everything, as you know.... wink!

Good luck!  Feel well!

Well, I'm definately long and lanky. Not sure about my wingspan, but it's pretty close! I meet nearly all the "look" requirements, now just waiting to see if the ticker is affected.

Thanks for the response, I'll let you know.

I too have multiple sclerosis for 11 years and was diagnosed very recently with Marfans. I'm abnormally tall, very flexible, weakness and muscle spasm/cramps, severe fatigue. For years before my recent marfan's dx, neurologist thought all my pain and symptoms were psychological. Now that I think the mystery is solved, the symptoms overlap both diseases and no on knows what symptoms are related to which condition. Very frustrating and very scary. I too have been looking for any connection between MS and MFS.
11 years of steroids that were most likely not helpful. I'm pretty devistated.

Hi and welcome, you've added your post to a very old 2008 thread, many members will not read posts going back that far. It would be really nice if you started a new thread, introducing your self so we can welcome you properly :0)
