Quix & Heather & All

Results of  ENT exam. Can't I ever have anything simple.........why do there always have to be complications. I'm going to resign from thhis.if I can just figure out where "this" is! The ENT specialist did a thorough exam, having to drag out the longer speculum etc. to try to get up my right nostril. His results......I have scarring in my throuat, but vocal cords look good, my right eardrum slightly scarred, no fluid in inner ear. My left eardrum greatly scarred, and fluid in inner ear. When he tried to look up my nose, he had to get a longer thingie. I have a "fairly severe deviated right septum. Thats shunting the infection into my left maxillary sinus. The only way of correcting it is surgery. Right now I'm on Antibiotics for 28 days, a corse of Prednisone, and nasal cortoco-steroids. I've never taken Prednisone before. It starts with a high dose 60mg for 5 days, 40mg for 4 days 20mg for 3 days and 10mg for 2 days.He said it might give me a suzz. Then in 30 a CT scan of just the sinusis. He also mentioned some allergy testing if my symptoms don't go away. Worried about my kitty and doggie. Any comments about taking the Predinsone? Why couldn't I have just had a sinus infection? AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG

I had my annual review today. Got a good review, and a small raise. Any is qppreciated. My boss did comment on me not remembering where the oil dipstick was last time he asked for a demo, where registration papers and insurance papers are kept. I couldn't remember, darn that frontal lobe lestion. Also we changed the way our sick leave and vacation time is computed. He swears I signed the memo last fall, and I have absolutely no memory of it at all. But I didn't tell him why. Took vacation days in April for appt. with Dr. M. Figure I'll keep my own (darn, can't remember the word I want) anyway, keep it to myself for now. Hope yo guys good.....ENT guy also said the prednisone might help my fibro!  ............Maggie

Thanks guys. I was reading the news this am, and all of a sudden my right nose started bleeding. The one with the deviated septum. Is this a prednisone side effect? I'll just starve myself for the 2 weeks I'm on it, can't stand any weight gain, makes my blood sugar go up. Took the 2nd dose when I got up, still don't feel like the eneriser bunny yet!.....Maggie

I have been on prednisone on several occasions because of my MS.  My only complaint is the weight gain and sugar cravings.  I try to stay away from sweets.

Your doctor mentioned that you start with a high dose and then keep going down until you are off the medication completely.  It does work.  If you do not get any side effects, I recommend that you stay with it until your symptoms improve or your doctor takes it away.  In my case, I usually loose all my weight gain and then do fine.

The best part of feeling drunk is that you do not get up with a hang over.  HA, HA.  Some medications will make you feel that way, but try to establish a good communication with your doctor, who will be your best bet when you do not understand if your medications are working or not.

Keep up your chin and faith and the Lord will guide you and your doctor for what is best for you.

Take care,

Zulma

I was diagnosed with MS after positive MRI's of the brain and spine and positive LP.  I was just diagnosed with Fibro in addition a few years ago.  I never know if my pain comes from MS or Fibro or both.  Since I have visible spasms in my legs, I am smart enough to know that this is NOT a symptom of Fibro, so am sure it's the MS.  The muscle aches and pain I have, especially with weather changes are probably due to the Fibro.

Prendisone is not a friend of this lady's body  It raises my blood glucose levels and my blood pressure, not to mention my weight.  I try to stay away from that if I can.  In the meantime, I try to stay as active as the MS will allow, without over fatiguing myself.

Hope you all get some relief soon.  You are lucky that you can take the Pren for your discomfort.  Even though it may be uncomfortable for me, I am looking into massage and water therapy.  Anything to help with the pain.

Best Wishes,
Heather

Maggie, I thought I recognized your name! The Fibro forum right? I just keep jumping from one forum to the next as they get closer to a dx. I too have taken prednisone. I only have two little complaints about prednisone, the weight gain and coming off of them. But the medication does help. lots of love, ada

Hi, just on the prednisone, My mum is on that for severe sinuses, she is on a very low dose and been on it a long time.  IT has saved her from having that awful sinus surgery (cant think of the correct terminology).   Some time back my hubby has also been on the same stuff for a different reason, sarcoidosis of the lungs he was on a high dose for approx 6mths and it made him very very  short tempered and highly strung and hypo and the docs warned him it would be like that too. He had to be slowly weened off them as apparently you cant come straight off them.

Thats about all my knowledge on the the prednisone.  Im sure the girls here would know more about it.

Each person is different with how they handle the steroid drug and it also depends on the dosage too.

All the best

Hey girl, glad the prednisone worked for you. Along with your brain fart, you had another one LOL You sent the post you typed to Heather to me.......Heather might not see it here. I know from talking to Quix, you can have MS without any visable lesions on an MRI. Maybe more digging warranted by your new neuro....yes, the pain is awful, sucks big time. But we are Woman, we are strong!..Maggie

GIRL!!! You have missed your calling for sure!  Well ...... maybe not.  You may be doing just exactly what you are supposed to be doing ... and that being to educate all of us out here in the MS, Fibro, CFS, Lyme world with the knowledge that we actually pay our physicians and/or nurses to share with us, but who fail to do so.  You have enlightened me so, so much and I appreciate all of your posts.

I was diagnosed with Fibro several years ago, but first dx was MS.  Sometimes I honestly feel the first was the correct one although the symptoms are almost identical.  I too had the MRI with and without contrast, but was told that the dx was changed from MS to fibro due to the lack of brain lesions.

I hope to have 2 new appts (1 with a neuro and 1 with a rheumatologist) sp?  within the next month.  My body has changed drastically within the last 4 weeks!

I have never been one to complain much, but lately, oh me, the pain has been awful!  But then, you know that, don't you!?

Again, thanks for sharing with us.  I appreciate it so much.  God bless you.

I just finished taking a prednisone pack last week for the TMJ and other facial bone, muscle, and joint problems I have been experiencing.  Worked great for me and my dx is fibro.  BLESS YOUR HEART!!   I'm sorry you are going through so much lately!  My brain is totally gone tonight!  We are expecting lots of rain tonight and tomorrow.  Pain level is in the red!!  I was trying to read what I had typed to you and had to go back and just start over!  It made no sense at all!  I guess it could have been good for a laugh tho!  I should have just kept it up, then when my brain thawed back out, just started with the ....as Paul Harvey would say ...... rest of the story!  Think I'll do that the next time!  When I typed at the top "worked great for me", following that I had typed "and it sold quickly too"!  Then I typed something about "over the weekend" ...  who knows!

After ready Heather's great posts, it makes me wonder if my docs first diagnosis was the right one instead of the Fibro. :(
