Yes to both.

Shoulder:  Several years ago I woke with shoulder pain.  After dealing with it for three years, I had surgery.  I thought all was well for about a month, but the pain returned (not as severe). Only in the past month have I considered that my shoulder pain could be part of the MS (diagnosed this week).

Ribs:  A year ago I had an episode of crushing pain beginning in my left side and traveling completely around my rib cage.  I was afraid it might be my heart.  It lasted perhaps 15 minutes.  Last week I had another spasm in my ribs on the left side.  It covered an area about the size of my hand.  It also ended in about 15 minutes, but the soreness lasted for several days.  I have concluded that this is similar to the "MS hug".  In addition, my ribs often hurt if I sleep on my side.

Hope this helps,

Sherry

Yes most definitely!  I have not been dx with MS, but have many of the symptoms.  Mine is in my right side rib cage most of the time, but has happened on the left side also.  It is a really strong pain and usually comes and goes for a week or two at a time.  Sometimes the pain goes all the way around my midrif and like Sherry says I sometimes wonder if it is related to the "MS hug".

Shoulder pain started this year in my right shoulder and was really bad, I've had a couple of episodes with the left shoulder also.

In the past two months I have started having this same pain in the front part of my knees and in my ankles.  It is very painful and also frustrating.

As I said, I haven't been dx yet, but everyday makes me more convinced that MS is the answer to all these symptoms.

Good luck to you and I wish  you the best.  At least you know you are not alone!!!

That is what I thought... I did some research, because this pain is awlful. And I wanted to do some research about maybe it being associated with the ms.

This is what i found..
It is called the MS HUG.... Caused by a lesion on the spinal cord & is technically classified as neuropathic pain called "paresthesia" The sensation itself is the result of tiny muscles between each rib... (Intercostal Muscles)  that go into spasms...

It was like a light bulb when I found this article,, Everything I seem to find now regarding this MS HUG thing,  explains all that I am feeling....
I will say this.. It is almost unbearable at times... Last night I had a really bad attack of this pain... It may have been a reaction to the extremely hot bath I took. Who knows.. I know better than doing that. But sometimes , it feels good to soak in a hot tub... LOL

Anyway,Hope this helps you all as well.
Thanks for all the input...

After I received the call confirming I had MS, I put on some music and soaked in a hot, lavendar bath.  What a glutten for punishment!

I Have most of these symptons, but a friend sent me an article on aspartane poisoning as I drink a lot of diet coldrinks and take sweetners . IThe article mentions that the symptons are very similar to MS and hard to make a diagnosis.  I cut out aspartane from my diet three weeks ago and have noticed a big improvement. Relief
