by mamak76, Nov 12, 2008 12:46AM
Is it possible to have Multiple Sclerosis after the rabies vaccination RabAvert? I have not been the same since the first vaccine shot. I'm getting worse. I'm numb in both feet both legs are very stiff and I have electrical shocks throughout my entire body including in my eyes. I've been going through this for over one year...I need help!  Thank you so much for having this site.  Peace to All...

Hi there,

Welcome to the MS forum.  I'm so sorry you have the numb feet and legs going on.  You must be frightened.

In my opinion, you cannot get MS from the rabies vaccination.  I do think it's very important for you to bring up what you have going on with your Dr. Did you ever mention this right afterward to the Dr?  It's been a yr now, so if you haven't already done so, I would start jotting down a bit of a timeline and make an appt.

For example: 2007: Rabies vaccination
2008:  numbness in feet and legs

Hope you enjoy it here Mamak76, we are very happy to have you with us.  Please ask anything.

See you around,
Shell

Hi, Welcome to the forum.  I doubt there is enough data on that vaccine to determine if it can be implicated in MS.  But, if the problems began tp happen to you pretty quickly after the vaccine I would have immediately thought about a reaction called Guillain-Barre.  This is diagnosed with a spinal tap and by clinical judgment.

MS is felt to be developing for a long time, perhaps years, before the first symptoms show.  It would be possible, I would think, for any vaccine to make MS show up (if it was already there).

Have your doctors considered Guillian-Barre, or talked to you about it?  Or have they considered a disease of peripheral neuropathy called CIDP - Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy?  CIPD, especially, can look like MS.  the major diagnostic tests are the spinal tap and nerve/muscle testing called EMG & NCS.

Tell us more about the vaccine and when your symptoms appeared and what your doctors are saying.
