Rebif and anemia

About 6 months ago my primary care dr did some lab and found I was anemic. His nurse told me they didn't know why and to try taking iron tabs which my stomach can't handle. Anyway it just dawned on me tonight that my neuro used to check me every 6 months for hgb, liver function wbc but over the years stopped. Could my anemia be caused by rebif? If so does that necessitate stopping it?

Hi beeama! I don't know what the instances of anemia and interferons are, but if you've not taken any supplements, and then go off the rebif for a week or two, then re-run the labs and they check out good you very well could be affected.
It is the docs responsibility to order the labs, but have found too I have to remember to ask for the script for labs.

Since it was 6 months ago - they should be run again for good measure. You can always include in your diet now food high in iron and see if the numbers come up too - should be too big of a problem depending on how low.

Uhhhh... You're responsibility to make sure the tests are done? I call shenanigans. It is absolutely the prescribing doctor's responsibility to make sure those tests are done.

I have pointed this out and am told if I feel those tests are necessary then its my responsibility to see that they are done.
As for rebif ans anemia that is something that is to be checked regularly according to the drug insert but just didn't know if being anemic warranted going off the rebif.

I don't know about the connection with Anemia, but your liver function should definitely be checked about every 6 months while you are on Rebif.  I would point this out to the staff/doctor, because this might just be an oversight on their part.
