thanks for the responses! well, i do have a tendency to worry about my health. BUT, i've also had vertigo and weird paresia on adn off for years. this issue is it's never really been clear cut flare ups, and it's all been pretty transient and mild so no one takes me seriously. my question abt the rectal prolapse is that i have no weakness or any other spinal symptoms...could a spinal lesion cause JUST a prolapse or would it more likely be accompanied by other symptoms. my dr. does not seem interested in pursuing the underlying cause of this, but i am inclined to do so.
Hi, Why don't you tell us why you've been worrying about having MS? What's been going on? And, welcome.

Welcome.
I had never heard of prolapses associated with MS, so I did some checking too. And yes, this apparently can happen, as Wobbly notes.
However, this has to be an extremely rare phenomenon. It would NOT be considered an early sign of MS. I would guess that it has more to do with your pregnancy. There's only so much room, and some things get pushed out of place. Have you discussed this with your OB? Do you plan to have it repaired at the time of delivery?

Hi,
I've never came across rectal prolapse as being associated with MS but I decided to look things up since I had a prolapse uterus in my teens which lead to my partial hysterectomy in my 30s so I know where you are coming from. It's kind of funny how you look back and find symptoms that you've had or you continue to have and it all goes back to one thing.
I did find this source which states...
"Spinal cord conditions and injury
Spinal cord injury and conditions such as muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis dramatically increase a woman's risk of prolapse. If the pelvic muscles are paralysed or movement is restricted, the muscles waste away and cannot support the pelvic organs."
This site is talking about all prolapses in general. The site is http://www.womenshealthlondon.org.uk/leaflets/prolapse/prolcauses.htm
It describes on this page most causes of prolapses.
I've also read that nerve damage and muscle damage can weaken the muscles causing the pelvic floor to give. This can all be associated with diseases or damage that effect the spine. What other symptoms are you having besides the rectal prolapse?
I hope all is well with your pregnancy. Keep in touch! :)
