Reflexology

by monotreme, Dec 05, 2007 02:34PM
I have briefly posted something before about reflexology, but feel inspired to mention it again.  I have been going to foot reflexology sessions that also include infrared heat being applied to the soles of my feet.  reflexology is the act of applying pressure with thumb and index finger to specific areas of the soles of the feet and can also be done to the palms of the hands.

I used to have numerous daily spasms in my feet and legs.  They would happen when I would lie down to go to sleep or do any walking at all.  Since going to the reflexology sessions for the past two months, the spasms have decreased significantly and I can go three days with NO spasms after the session.  My legs also do not feel like I am wearing lead ankle weights after the session either.

I still have throbbing spine pain at T12, which is less after the sessions but still present.  But in general, I feel so good having less spasms.

There has been research on reflexology and MS and it has been proven to help.  I asked my reflexologist (also a nurse) to give me a copy of the research report and I will post about it in the future.  I first heard about it after seeing an interview with Ann Romney (wife of Mitt Romney) and how she used reflexology and therapeutic horseback riding to bounce back from her MS.

It is not covered by my insurance and each session costs me 60 dollars, but it has helped me tremendously to feel better.

So I highly recommend it.  And coming from an engineer who does not usually  believe in these things, I am convinced it is helping.   It may not be slowing down my disease, but it helps me to keep working at my job and get through the day.

Thanks for posting this. I want to look into that and see if I can find someone in my area that does it. I'm hoping it will be someone close as it looks like we are going to have a brutal winter here and I won't be able to do much driving. If not I'll try in the spring. Thanks for the great info on it and I'm glad that you are getting some relief.

Well it was a killer day for me so I think I may try to lay down for awhile. Wishing you well Craig.

Hi Criag, I too have been having reflexology on my feet and it works a treat...i agree.  I've had to cancel my last 2 appts due to hospital appts and work load etc and I can certainly feel the benefits slipping away....must make that appt tomorrow...note to self...lol.

I've also been having deep tissue massage for the spasms and cramps I get...that is great too.

I'm with you on this one Craig...

Thanks for the info.  I was approached about reflexology but didn't know if it would be worth it.
