Relief? Cautiously optimistic.

Well, I saw my neuro yesterday, the pain doc my ms neuro sent me to.  1st of all he apologized MANY times for not sending me any more pain meds last month when I called. (I was having horrible face/head pain from dental work and ran out of pain meds when I called).

He said he didn't remember who I was since I had only seen him once, but now he will always remember me. Just needing relief, not a drug seeker. I thanked him for apologizing, told him he really upset me, but I am glad he said he was really sorry multiple times.  Anyway, I was glad to get that issue resolved and he promised me that will never happen again.

Well, I told him about my woes, although he saw it as well.  I had woken up the other day in the middle of the night, with the horrific pain in the back of my head and ear when swallowing, etc.

He took away one of my meds, added 2 others and increased one of them. (increased lamictal, took away lexapro, start amytriptaline, and start prostique. (unsure of spelling on these). He also have me lots of pain meds.  I am still on trileptal and tizanadine as well.

He then injected the back of the right side of my lower head in 3 places. I believe the C spine 1 and 2. and near my ear.  It was steroids with lidocaine.  (I think this is the procedure Rendean had but coming from the outside, not the inside).

I woke up today and have no pain when I swallow and I do believe this has stopped the inevitable from happening. I was still in pain last night, but woke up today with even my face feeling better!  (The way this usually goes for me, it by today I wouldn't be able to brush my teeth, hair etc.)

He told me if this works, it can last for up to 3 months. I am cautiously thrilled. Today I might have a pain free day?  That would be so excellent since all my boys are home, no school, and I might be able to enjoy them?

Just sharing some hopefully happy news. I know I might seem like "debbie downer", but have been through so much with this pain, that I remain cautiously optimistic.

Michelle

Thanks again for all the support here. Well 4 days later my right side is still pain-free!!  Although  my left side has started to have pain in my cheek 2 days ago, getting a bit worse.  I have had the pain on my left side, but it is probably only about 10% of the time.

Guess I will wait and see what happens, although the pain has never been near the severity of the right side. I think this is bizarre.

If things change, I will call neuro and see if he can do the shots on my left side if needed.

I am still very happy and relieved that I might have finally found a treatment that works. Thank goodness.

I actually had a great weekend that I would have normally missed out on due to the pain.  Much better quality of life without pain.

Michelle

Julie,   YES I am coming to DC for the rally!  I have decided to bring my moms walker to help me get around.  Much easier than a wheelchair.  I am staying in Fairfax VA, are you anywhere near there? I would LOVE to meet you in person!  Let me know where you are  :)

That is amazing and I am optimistic for you as well Michelle.  There is only so much we can handle in life when we are in pain.

So, hat's off to your pain doc for getting you back on track and more importantly, apologizing for not being there when you needed him. He did the right thing by not taking care of you properly.

I hope now you will be in a good place. Are you still thinking of coming to the rally in DC?

Stay well.

Julie

Thank you Michelle and Lu.  I am so happy to start my weekend feeling good.  Made a huge batch of eggs, bacon and toast for the kids. Today we are having lunch with my dad later, and then going pumpkin "shopping" at the pumpkin patch.  It is a beautiful fall day here, I am loving the cooler weather! I am happy today.

Thanks for your support!
