Sensory wackiness

In the past couple of months, I have had:

~one incident of my right hand turning into a cold block of ice; gone within an hour
~one incident of my left outer ankle feeling like it was wet; gone within a couple of minutes
~one incident of feeling zippy electrical feelings behind my knees; gone within a couple of minutes
~several incidents of achiness behind my left eye; almost not noticeable, but enough to make me wonder

What are all these wacky little things?

I know when I make up my timeline I should mention things of significance or it could get really long and bogged down. But are these sensory aberrations something worth putting into a Misc. category?

I almost kind of/but not really liked that stuff behind my knees, lol.

Oh I've had days of being chilled through and through. I wear layers while others are in t-shirts. That made me wonder if I didn't have MS (am undx'd) because I didn't have the heat sensitivity. Then again, once summer hits, I do, and I hibernate! (Can you hibernate in the summer, or is that a winter-only thing?)

People go for walks by my house and I mumble about them "I could never do that, I break out in a sweat!"

The first day I was on my nifedipine (for Reynaud's), the fronts of my shins felt like a blow torch was on them, they were very very hot. My skin got reddish too. Ved-dy peculiar! I could tell you where I was and the minute it happened. Kind of scary.

Jensequitur: I don't think my hand was white. It just felt heavy and thoroughly cold as if I were carrying a block of ice on the end of my wrist. It was my dominant hand on the mouse while on the computer, so I figured that it meant I had to get off the computer, on too long, which was not the case. Hasn't happened since.

And yes, the electrical feelings in my legs are a new thing lately. Along with not-quite-charley horse feelings.

Oh, and the left eye ache: TRUST me, I keep closing one eye and then the other to check on the red colors! All day, every day.....someone is going to think I have a tic or something! But no, no color changes. I have transient blurriness, can't see things clearly even with the glasses on. Bad enough to get off the computer, then I'm fine a while later. Annoying. I can't decide if it's my right eye or left though. You'd think I"d be able to figure it out, but ALAS! I canNOT (drama!)

I am going through all of this right now. I just thought that maybe I was making it up. I sometimes want this stuff to be in my head so I can make it stop.

I like the idea about putting it on a timeline. I figured that it did not hurt why bother. I am writing my symptoms down right now.

Thanks everyone

I have wondered for several months why this has been happening to me. My limbs are usually what gets cold, but a couple of times my stomach got cold! Weird, huh? Well, I guess this is just another "symptom" to add to my undiagnosis (is that a word?). Any thoughts on what causes this?

I get all of these type of feelings as well...my Dr asked me when my legs get cold...are they cold inside or on the outside?  I feel both..how about any of you?  Do your legs feel cold when you touch them...or do the bones feel cold??

Those that haven't heard your history might be a little confused, but they'll catch up!

I think it wouldn't hurt to document each sensory event separately.  Because you're still undiagnosed, it will help the doctor to know the kind of symptoms you're having.

• cold block of ice:  Was your hand white, as well as cold?  This happened to my hand, but it was just the two smallest fingers...  Fingers that have since had more problems, like numbness, tingling, weakness, and so on.  So keep an eye on that hand... so to speak.  i think the blood isn't getting to it because of nerve damage, but don't quote me.

• one incident of my left outer ankle feeling like it was wet:  This is always a weird one!  I first started experiencing this four months ago.  For me it's the side of my right knee and my right thigh.  It's a nerve conduction problem in the brain.

• zippy electrical feelings: Rather like electrical shocks, right?  I used to get this in my right arm.  Same thing - the nerves aren't firing right.

• several incidents of achiness behind my left eye:  Sounds like optic neuritis to me.  Find something red and look at it with each individual eye - see if the color changes from eye to eye.  I have some residual problems from optic neuritis, especially with color.  Not sure why we get optic neuritis - but the optic nerves are affected by MS too,  so it makes sense.

Rena, I had a whole day of feeling chilled to the bone.  On Sunday, I was feeling bad, and decided to crash on the couch with a comforter over me.  Fully dressed, comforter over my head, I was still shivering.  **** this, I'm going to bed!  So I crawled into bed and slept for five hours.  When i woke up I was nice and warm again.

I suppose I shouldn't talk like that about my inactive MS...it is only going to confuse people right???

I have been meaning to ask if anyone has a problem with their legs feeling cold?  I just cooked supper and I had the oven on 400 degrees, I have pants on and my legs are freezing!  I don't think they should be but maybe this is part of the inactive MS so it wouldn't apply to anyone on here right?  tee hee

What I would do is say "Varied Sensory Issues, such as : ___" on your timeline. Actually, that's what I DID do for mine.

Hope that helps?

Most everything on me is left-sided.

Then again, the right hand was the one that "froze". I was on the computer and figured I had been on too long....? I'd only been on for 30 minutes. HAD to get off, and shake that hand out but good, what the heck happened....?

I'm going to wear out the ? key on this keyboard.......?????

Yes they are very important, the sensory deficits in themselves can tell the doc many different things.  For example I was explained that my right sided sensory deficit is caused by the left side of my brain. It could be your nervous system sending the wrong signals.  If I don't make sense and I might of got them mixed up a little. I am on a lot of meds right now....If I'm wrong someone let me know.  But I hope it helps,,,,

I remember my first episode of lower extremity tinglyness, too bad it happened in public....:(

Definately put them on there......Keep me posted....

Sending Hugs,

Ada
