Spasticity question

A week ago I suddenly got a horrible cramp/charlie horse in the muscle of the arch of my right foot. It caused my big toe to flex to the left, away from my other toes. Luckily it only lasted about 5 minutes and I was able to massage it out.

Since then the muscle has felt weird. For the first couple days I just assumed it was sore. Now, I'm thinking that's not the problem. If I feel or rub the muscle it does not feel any different then the same muscle on my left foot. I don't notice it feeling rigid or more tense. But, that muscle constantly feels like it is just about to start cramping.

During one of my pregnancies I had a few charlie horses in my calve when I was sleeping and stretched my toes up (not pointed, but stretched them back towards my leg, if that makes sense?) I learned to not stretch while in bed.

Now I'm afraid to stretch my right foot, or to move it in much, because it just feels like one tiny wrong move and it is going to cramp up. I've tried massaging it, and I've tried icy hot rub on it, and it doesn't help.

Is this spasticity? Or just a sore muscle from the muscle cramp a full week ago?

Thanks!

That pain sounds very similar to when I had Plantar Facitis(sp) it is the muscle in the arch of your foot not being stretched enough. The podiatrist gave me excersises to do and a cortisone shot (that was not fun in the foot!)

Absolutely nothing you want to diagnos on your own so good thing you are seeing your doctor. I hope it is something simple as what I mentioned.

I'm not sure what's happening with your foot, so I'm glad you see your doctor in a day or two.

Cramping in the foot such as you describe is pretty common, whether or not we have MS. It's also *really* painful :-(  So are calf muscle cramps. I'm surprised your calves would cramp when you pulled your toes back towards your knees, flexing the foot. That stretches out the calf muscle, and cramping is a contraction of the muscle into a knot. If that happened while you were sleeping, maybe you awoke in the middle from the pain and mistook what relieved it.

I suggest not trying to do anything different with your foot till you see the doc. You don't want to overcompensate, and then compensate for the compensation, and on and on.

Good luck.

I forgot to mention that the muscle does feel like it is tingly a lot, not all the time, but often.

I have an appointment set for thursday morning. My doctor wanted to see me if I decided to try the neurontin to help me sleep. So, I will ask him about the foot thing then. :-)
