Well, it does sound like spasm in the muscles. Spasisity would probably have to be determined by the neuro or a PT.
What you describe in your lower back is what I have on the right side of my lower back. If I stand or lie down - so that my legs are in a straight line with my torso - after a short time I get that same grabbing feeling. I am able to walk though, and my pain is more of a pulling discomfort - unless I have been lying down, then it gets more severe.
I sleep in my relciner which keeps my hips bent and that keeps my back looser.
It's best that we all describe our symptoms to our doctors in our own words, rleating our symptoms with things we know than to use a word like "spasticity." So, if your pain feels like muscle tightening or muscle spasms you have had in the past use those words.
