Speech therapy for cog. issues

All
I had written this on Tahiri's thread but thought maybe it was important for more people to see. I can't believe that I actually copied and pasted it with success.. :)

I started speech therapy for cognitive issues two wks ago . I have all the troubles everyone mentioned above . I also have great difficulty speaking concepts..  or what I'm thinking ..  also understanding what has just been said and what I'm looking at  (this is the scariest for me)    unnerving stuff this is

Typing is much easier.. as most of these problems have to do with processing speed.  This also affects my movements, walking ,stairs ( mostly going  down)...etc. ( PT for movement & balance )

I get sent home with 'homeward' . ..very simple stuff.. and I still have a hard time with it .. can't image I can't list five red things or list five wide things. The deductive reasoning assignments should be the hardest but are actually very  easy for me and fun ??.. go figure.   If any one has questions , just ask .. I will do my best to answer .
This is suppose to help with the neuroplastisity of the brain.

I had just wanted to say that there is a therapy for the cognitive dysfunctions that we are experiencing , I'll let you know how it goes.     Can you tell I'm having trouble writing this .. I am .   I'm still smiling though .:) :)  I'm a very optimistic person at heart.

We're looking at a potential hurricane early in the wk. , prayers to all
Everyone in Florida , Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi and Alabama be prepared .

Hugs and prayers

Jo

Hi, kids!  Yeah, that's happyneuron.com.  Can't remember the name of the other website.  Happy Neuron is the cheapest deal - $99 for a year's membership, and you get to play all the games (work all the exercises, if you want to make it sound not-fun!) for that $99.

I need to get going on that, and get going on getting my prescription for Aricept.  Heather tells me that her dad was on Aricept for a while, and had some severe side effects (nausea, diarrhea) so had to stop.

I hadn't expected this , the PT therypist must have picked up on something because on my second visit she had a referral for me for ST.

I had the neuro psych testing in Jan. they used that and did some of their own tests ( I am doing a bit worse now)..  I'm not sure how long the therapy  will last. At least a couple of months. It seems very rudimentary. maybe that's how it starts out .

They are use to working with really old and/or damaged patients . I have a suspicion they're  feeling their way with me, as I have some somewhat major (for me ) deficits but also am intact in others.

.  Besides the other things I mentioned they are having me use some of their computer games and the ones I was already play , I am suppose to up the difficulty factor. There are a couple of good programs that can be purchased., that someone mentioned here ( can't remember who ) maybe Jen.  The therapist would like me to get one or two of them.

I'm not too worried about the hurricane . I will stay with a friend ,her condo is in a concrete building . I'l stay in my house tonight , then decide tomrrow ..  We just can't predict where Miss Fay is going to go .

Florida Mom, Kristen I hope you're watching , it could jog to the east.  BE SAFE!!

Hugs and prayers

I too am interested.  Do they give it to you as long as you need it, and will they test you? I know Jens, had a cog test that sounded like something we all should get for baseline.

I did see that hurricane on the rise, hope it simmers down, and stays off land.

Hugs Back,
Shelly

I found your post really interesting. Have you found any difference yet since you have started this? I would be interested in seeing how you make out.

Glad to see you still smiling!!

Prayers that the Hurricane does not hit inland.

Hugs
