Still being tested

Last Friday I had a lumbar puncture. I am still waiting on the results of the Myelin Basic Protein, Oligoclonal Bands and the Immunoglobulin G. I can get into my chart on a website and see my records etc.. The last couple of days these tests have said "pending" today they have XXX under the results. Does anyone know what that means? I have tried googling it and no luck. I am getting alittle impatient I guess. They are also testing for lyme and lupus. I am not sure whats worse the not knowing or finding out it might be one of these. Can anyone tell me if their tests took this long and if you could get into your charts what did your tests say?

They have to send them to special labs usually they use a couple and compare. Mine took six weeks. It depends on how backed up the labs are. Sometimes they have a backlog. Mine went to the Mayo and California and I am at Duke. Duke does not do there own.

Thank You! And yes you are so right about it never being a good idea to interpret the meaning of codes. Patience isnt one of my better traits lol but I dont think I have any other choice but to be patient. I have an appt. with my neurologist in mid october I will find out then. They posted the results of my MRI and I found out thru the report before the dr had a chance to tell me that there were enough lesions they didnt count them. I am thinking that being able to go online to view results/reports are not always a good thing.

Hi and welcome,

It's never a good idea to interpret meaning of the various codes used on test, most of the time these codes are used to justify the types of testing or internal department related speak and have no direct meaning to the patient.

In general 2+ (though some clinics require 4+) unique OBands which aren't also in the blood, is 'suggestive' diagnostic evidence of MS but it's still possible to be dx with MS and have a normal LP if all your other evidence (sx pattern, clinical signs, MRI etc) is supportive of the dx of MS.

I understand your inpatient but it's only been a few days since you had the LP and it's common for people to be waiting weeks to months before they get results, so it's early day's yet....

Cheers........JJ
