Stinging pain in big toe

Over a period of time ( a couple of years) I have had reoccuring pain in my big toe.  It is extremely severe and feels like a bee sting.  It will last a couple of days and then not reoccur for maybe 12 months.  It usually starts in bed and can come on a number of times during the day. I have had a nerve scan which did not show anything.

Definitely sounds like a paresthesia.  I wonder if meds are worth it for the short time you have it.  Is it not at all tolerable?  If not then you can ask for something for neuropathic pain.  There are three HPs you might read talking about all of this.

Hope this helps.

The scan I had was like a normal scan testing the nerves in my foot.
Does it sound like paresthesia. What is the treatment?

Classic painful paresthesia.  I also have such a sensitivity in my second toe, which I stubbed violently twice in succession about 7 years ago.  Now it is all bulbous and red and if it even gets tapped lightly in the wrong way I drop to my knees in brief, but severe pain.  My neuro thinks I probably have a traumatic neuroma, which may have been what they were looking for with the nerve scan.

I have never before heard of a nerve scan.  Was it a nuclear medicine thing?
