Strange looking leg muscles...Quix??

Since I have been recovering from the last relapse , the muscle in my left thigh is tight and muscular even though walking is all I can manage.

When I bend the knee and turn the leg out to stretch it , I feel tightness and pain in the knee cap area as well as the thigh. I am loosing the flexibilty so stretching each day is important.

Also the hamstring of the same leg is tight. When I do a leg raise, the muscle is very pronounced in that leg and looks very different to normal.

My question is ...what is causing this??  I dont do any excersises other than walking. As I am not dx, can something other than MS cause this??

Hi Ess,

I went to my Dr and told her about this and not being able to bend and turn knee out without pain in the thigh or knee cap.  She wanted me to try anti- imflamitries for a week first and if no better then physio.

I am reluctant to try the anti inflammitries so was going to go back in a week and request physio. It is definitely progressing up my thigh and hamstring. Some times when walking , if I step out to the side or cross infront of the other leg I get sharp pain down the leg. Enough to make me grit my teeth and stop.

I was thinking it might be spasticity as it looks bulging at times and makes the leg look muscly down the centre and drawn in along the outside.

Thanks for your help. I will go back to my dr and get her to look at it. Thanks

This is a good description of spasticity. Your doctor should see it, so make an appointment ASAP, even with your primary doctor.

The best thing would be to get a referral to a physical therapist, who can help keep the muscles pliable. There are also meds to relax the muscles. Waiting will just make things worse. This is not to alarm you, but to get you help. There are a number of diseases and conditions that cause spasticity, but if MS is suspected, evaluations should get you closer to a diagnosis.

Sending good wishes,
ess

I don't know what's causing it but I have the same thing at the back of my right thigh - the muscle is a tight ball and looks totally different to the left leg and I'm also slowly  recovering from a flare

I'd like to know too
