Stress and MS

I have heard a lot of mixed feeling on this issue and I am very curious.  I got hurt at work in June of 08.  work comp denied my claim for injury simply because they picked me out of a hat and came up with a lofty excuse.

In Dec of 08 my stress level was through the roof with an attorney becoming less and less helpful, a serious shortage in income (took time off when my son was born so disability payments were low) and Christmas on the way.

On Dec 2 I finally got my first MRI and xray of my injury along with a cortizone shot which I hate.
I figured out that I was going to have to file bankruptcy around the same time.
On Dec 7th I had my first major MS attack.  This led to my Dx.

I was always under the impression that major life stress like death in the family can cause attacks, but can simply high stress levels lead to MS attacks??

Thank you for your replies.

I have been fighting this stupid work comp case which I know I should drop for my health, but it is the principle of the fact that they denied me for no ligitimit reason when people I work with that weigh 150-200lbs more than they should are getting their backs fixed and knees replaced on work comp.

I have always been careful not to mention that I think they are the reason I had my first major attack because I don't want to open that can of worms.

I have certainly decided to mention (per my attorney) the extreme level of stress losing my ability to work caused up to the point where I had my attack.

I know  that getting a breast cancer diagnosis and facing 24 weeks of chemo before surgery sure as heck set off my MS which had been under the radar for years.
I opted to forgo the chemo and just have a mastectomy but the damage was done and I have been really suffering with TM and MS for a year now.

Looking back, I realize every time I had a flair over the years (but didn't know what it was) it was after a period of extreme stress.

So, yes, I think stress can set MS off in a person who has it.

Hi, As Far as I know, Stress DOES NOT CAUSE MS..

But if you have MS stress can cause a "Flair-up. This is why we are always says avoid Stress and when you are stressed address it.

If They Knew What Caused MS then at least we would maybe have better treatments..

Hope things get better for you... Hugs and Love {{{{~!~}}}} DJ

To the best of my knowledge, stress can bring on attacks where MS was already present. I think it can be the first attack or any attack.
