MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS COMMUNITY
Tests I have had

Tests I have had

I have had a MRI, EEG and blood work to rule out lupus, RA, lyme disease and a sed rate that was high at 70.  From what I know the MRI was only of the brain and I am not sure the strength of the MRI.  Are muscle cramping and leg spasms especially in the calves a part of this.  I also feel like I have the flu alot of times or that I am running a fever but don't.  Like I said I have all the symptoms down to hearing loss and tinnitus.  My gait and balance are horrible and I fear falling most of the time and have on several occastions.  I see my family dr. this week, he wants to see me for a full 1/2 to discuss and go over my medical history which I think is a positive step or that he believes me and my symptoms.  I just feel so hopeless right now cause no one has answers for how I feel.  I was told also that fibromyalgia is not a reason and it is just a term for a group of problems rolled into one.  I have been searching the internet for help and came across this site.  My symptoms all got worse in May right after I had the flu real bad.  Is this any correlation to any of this?  Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you for you help.

Hello and welcome to the MS forum!  I am sorry to hear about the problems you have been dealing with but I feel that you have come to the right place!  We are not physicians here but with the combination of the experiences we have all endured and are still enduring we can offer you some assistance to hopefully find a reason for all of your symptoms.

For starters, I would advise that you become very familiar with the Health Pages in the upper right hand corner of this page.  You will find a plethora of information on MS itself, the proper path to a diagnosis and everything in between including information on MRI's, symptoms, treatments and ways to deal with many problems associated with MS.

You will find in the Health Pages a section called "My family doctor thinks I may have MS...what do I do now?" or something close to that...it will give you a guideline to follow to ensure that you are getting the proper testing and that the dr's are taking the appropriate steps to discern what the problem actually is.

The fact that you had a bout of the flu in May could be a precursor to an MS relapse but it may not and I think that seeing a neurologist or an MS Specialist is probably the next best thing for you to do.

Please know that there are a great group of people here on the forum and that we only have your best interests in mind.  Should you need to rant, rave, laugh or cry, we are here 24/7 and always have a should to cry on should you need one.  Please stay in touch with us and let us know what you plan to do...we can assist you with things like time lines and how to deal with different situations.  There is an opportunity here to make some good friends as well and perhaps in the future you may be able to assist someone else that is in the same situation as you find yourself in now...the experience is very fulfilling.  So, that said, we look forward to hearing from you and l am sure others in our group will respond to your plea for help as well...be patient honey...you are at the beginning of a long road but we will be there to help you in your journey ok?

Lots of Hugs,

Rena

Meg, welcome also.  Thank you for your kind words.  I am just so tired of feeling so tired and sick.  I can barely function at times.  I hope that they can find the cause soon.  I am too young to feel this way with no answers.  I will keep you in my prayers and hope you find answers also.

hugs Kathy
