The latest questionable "CURE"...Progurt

This is a product that my cousin (who has a brain injury so I took it with a grain of salt) told us about and he told us that it is a new drug that is supposed to "cure" Multiple Sclerosis!  So I bit the bait and googled it and the following is a blurb that I copied and pasted from their website:

Progurt has improved the quality of life of sufferers of Multiple Sclerosis. Progurt has been of help to long term sufferers of MS as well as those recently diagnosed.

You may attain positive results within hours or days depending upon the severity of your condition. Progurt may eliminate or lessen the severity of the following symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis.

Bowel and bladder dysfunction

Cognitive Function, including problems with memory, attention, and problem-solving

Balance, Dizziness and Vertigo

Emotional Problems and/or Depression

Fatigue (also called MS lassitude)

Difficulty in Walking and Coordination Problems

Numbness or “pins and needles”
Tremors

Vision Problems

Hearing Loss

Headache

Speech and Swallowing Disorders

Seizures

Itching

Spasticity

With all the money, time and education spent on trying to find a cure for MS...can you believe that by simply adding a little packet of "stuff" to your yogurt that you can be cured of all of the above symptoms!  Just blows my mind!!! hehe
Here's more:

The Story of MicoBioFlora™ - Good Bacteria
A Single sachet of Progurt™ starter culture makes 1 litre (1000ml) or 1 quart of Progurt™. This contains an enormous amount of good bacteria. For example, 100ml of Progurt™ contains in excess of one trillion colony forming units (CFU's) of good bacteria.

In developing Progurt™, the main goals was to replicate and replace the good bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract that most of us have lost, and to deliver it in a potent and pleasant tasting form to the digestive system to produce the most positive results possible in the fastest time.

Why Do We Need to Replenish Our Bacteria?
Our modern western diet, lifestyle, and dependence on antibiotics erodes much of our natural bacteria. Many of our foods today are produced with the help of growth hormones, antibiotics, preservatives, insecticides, herbicides, and soil additives. These chemicals make their way through the food chain into our bodies where they wreak havoc with out natural bacteria. With so much processed food and a high sugar intake, over the course of a lifetime, we end up destroying certain strains of our natural good bacteria. We are now left with not enough numbers or types of good bacteria in our intestines. In Progurt™, we provide the additional good bacteria that you have lost.

Now as far as I am concerned, if we eat a complete, balanced diet that includes all the food groups and eat some yogurt such as Activia to replenish the bacteria in our systems, we are going to feel better.  But this sort of claim that this product will eliminate a multitude of symptoms of MS is a little far fetched if you ask me.  If someone has data to prove that this is the case I would be willing to give it a try but I am sure that if you asked your "friendly neighborhood neurologist" about how much this product would help...well, I don't expect that they would be any too happy that this claim is being made.  Perhaps I am stepping out of line by stating my opinion about this product and making statements about what medical professionals may think but I feel that we all know that we are entitled to our opinions on the forum and this is my opinion of this product.

Any comments?

p.s. The amount of spelling errors in the advertisement itself makes me think that this is not an advertisement to be taken too seriously...any medical advertising that is factual is scrupulously checked for spelling and grammatical errors and I just don't think these people had the time??? hehe

The CL's are lobbying with MH for a way to close old discussions like this so they can't be resurrected for new comments.  Probiotics do play an important part in the health of our gut, but a particular brand that costs $$$ is no more beneficial than some other forms.

Anyone who has issues should talk to their doctor about a reasonable way to regain intestinal health through diet.

However, as Bob has written, there is no link between Progurt and MS other than commercial gain. -Lulu

lizconnellyo3 and gtpontiac have incomplete profiles.  They seem to exist only to "Sell their product."  No bogus "dietary corrections to the MS problem" hype.  More spam.

Progurt has entered our household in the last two months and is an amazing addition to our lifestyle.
I love the way it tastes and upgrades the digestive system. I have no clue if it cures anything but gut health is foundational to health overall. The fact that they provide bio identical human strains is very cool.
People should try this before they make any kind of judgment. Too bad people jump the gun and assume it is a bad thing based on their human reasoning - when they haven't even checked it out. This type of attitude often costs people their lives. What a shame.

Can't say I know much about all these treatments available for MS since I have no DX and admittadly know very little about MS to begin with since it wasn't something I considered until recently.

But isn't someone always coming out with some new "cure" for a disease that doesn't have one!
I can't believe people are willing to take advantage of the sick and desperate in an attempt to make money. It's truely disgusting that people can be that heartless and cruel. You know someone is going to buy into it and give up the hard earned money they make wishing to get better and willing to try anything.

$380 just to try it!! Better off buying that bridge you have for sale.

Hi, Guys, I just looked up this very special probiotic formula.  They want $380 so you can try this bacterial culture. AND you get to save the shipping cost from Australia where it is produced.   And I have a bridge you might want to buy also.  Don't get me wrong, probiotics are great and probably needed by anyone who consumes processed foods.  There are any number of outstanding probiotic supplements on the market for a tiny fraction (< 5%) of the cost of the cultures they are offering.

We all need to be very aware of the miracle cures, especially those that want us to try the product at a substantial cost (when it takes almost no overhead to produce bacterial cultures - the buggers reproduce themselves!).

Also, be aware of anyone that approaches you here on MedHelp via Private Message that offers help.  For your own safety you should not give out personal information to anyone that approaches you.  Please report to me or to MedHelp anyone that appoaches you and later wants private info or money.

This has been a Public Safety Announcment

Was this before or after the email that I got from the Duke of Edinsomewhere telling me I was one of the few known heirs to a multi-million dollar trust that hadn't been claimed?
he, he he.  The cons are out there and unfortunately trusting people believe them!

Not buying,
