Thou shalt not leave thy wheelchair in the car!!!

Oh man, did I do a stooooooooooooopid thing today! After having had two days off sick I thought, yeah! I think I'll leave the wheels in my car today and just use the stick to get around school with. I reckon I'm walking sooo much faster now than I was a couple of weeks ago and I feel a bit better, so why not?!

WRONG!!!!

I knew as soon as I had gotten all of my stuff from the car and was walking to my office. I had major nerve pain hit my lower back and go down my left leg - it made me fully tighten up, stop and grimace for a couple minutes before I could move. I did however have a major achievement today - I got up the stairs not once but several times... and was just about done for by the top hehehe Silly, silly. I ended up getting to my class after recess about 10 minutes late because it took me that long to go to the toilet and shuffle my way down to the Middle School.

And here I was thinking I was looking better, even feeling better, but allllllllllllll day I had people asking me if I was ok or if I should be at work - apparently I looked horrid!! Amazing!! I felt quite well!!! Well... you know... much better than yesterday, and much MUCH better than the day before that, but I guess people don't realise, do they? Ah well... maybe I should have taken that offer to go home at lunch?

By the end of the day I was absolutely exhausted and did not want to move one more inch. On the way to my office I got told off by a colleague for not being in my chair but she admired my determination, even if I did look like I was going to keel over at any moment... nice! hehe

On the way home I popped into my Mum's place, only to get smacked on my lower back by my nephew!! I tell you what, did it hurt or what?!!! He's only THREE but I tell you it really felt like fire all around that area, which is weird coz you wouldn't think a little tike like that could put such strength behind it? It was the opposite side to where I was having pain earlier today - has anyone had that before??

Anyway, I have well and truly leant my lesson! I will DEFINITELY be in my chair tomorrow to vote in our National Election, I will DEFINITELY be in my chair on Monday to shop til I drop (which won't take long haha) in our state capital when I have my neurologist appointment (FINALLY) and I will DEFINITELY be in my chair when I go back to work on Tuesday.

Mel :-)

PS - Hope y'all have a great weekend!! It's Friday night, 8:40pm here and I am ready to drop right into my bed! zzzzzzzzz

heehee No, I don't wish to be slapped with a wet noodle either! I am definitely taking my chair and am even going to take it shopping with me!! :-)

My Mum is going with me, but I feel a bit funny about having her in the appointment with me. She drives me nuts when we're talking to someone - she always tries to talk for me and finishes my sentences. I've thought about it, but it really is far too annoying. hehe I know that sounds horrible but I need to last the day without getting upset at her (and I really hate it when I do), so it's best for both of us hehe

I will let you know for sure how I go - I'll come straight on here when I get home!

Mel :-)

PS - I'm not getting my hopes up too much though, because he'll probably just send me for some tests

I can't wait to hear about your appointment when you get home.  Don't make me come over there and slap you with a wet noodle too.

Hope you are "taking your wheelchair."  Let's not leave it "in the car" this time; you hear?

Don't you have anyone that will go with you to your appointment so they can be your "eyes and ears," so you don't forget anything?  I always try to get my sweetie to go with me, so he can take those mental notes for me or tell the doctor things that I have forgotten.

Hope to hear from you soon.

My parents can be supportive when they want to, but sometimes my Mum just can't understand things and why I can't do things sometimes.

Tiger balm patches? No I don't know what they are.

Well I'm off to my Neuro appointment tomorrow at 11:30am, thank goodness! I can't wait! I have tidied up my time line and done a bit of a top 11 symptoms list for him. I will need to take a pad and pen so that I can write stuff down, although writing is part of my problem... hmm ah well. Maybe I'll just take down key words. I thought about getting a small recording device to record the appointment but of course I forgot and haven't acted on it.

I will let you know as soon as I get home what happens!!!

Awww, can't I be Super Woman??? Puuuuuuuuulease?!!! hehehe Thanks Heather, I did bop myself on the head three times :-)

I didn't end up taking my chair to the election today as my parents picked me up and it would have been so much more hassle if I did. I just took my stick and in the end it was a really quick in and out of the building, so I didn't need to worry.

Oh man, Sam, you are so right!! How much effort and pressure does it put on your arms?! I mean it does help me - it keeps me more balanced and stops me from shuffling and limping so much. You poor thing - that sounds horrible! It's funny that the two of us did exactly the same thing around the same time hehe

You are so right about how I felt this morning - I was so sore and then I went for my massage appointment. Oh my goodness - I was soooooooooo sore in places!!! On my inner thigh left leg she just touched a couple of spots and I was in AGONY!! It burnt like hot hot fire!! She thought maybe it was a nerve. Ah well, I got a bit better afterwards and I've just helped my parents put up some Christmas lights around my house.

Oh Cowboy that's a dreadful story!!! What a nightmare for you!

OK, OK I will always take my chair!!! :-)

Just talking about office chairs with wheels, when I was working in a body shop I had the truck bed off and was working on the top of the cab. Well some how my foot slipped between the frame and the gas tank and down I when side ways, broke my wrist and pulled all the tendons in my knee, I was in sooooo much pain I could hardly talk and of course no one was around at the time, so I had too push myself back up and there I sat just waiting in pain till someone came in.

Well after abit I got some help and they put me on the office chair and wheeled me out to the boss's car and I think we hit ever bump and rock that they could have and drove me to the ER. I would have given anything for a wheel chair at that time and could prop up my leg.

But do take care and DON'T FORGET YOUR CHAIR

Hi,

I wanted to do that on tuesday when i went shopping with my friend but she would not let me LOL

But i did it today going to get my MRI i thought i would be ok without the chair!!  oh silly me!!

The seemed to go on forever i had both sticks like my O.T said and i must admit i was more upright and not so much pressure in on my back and these are the right size for me too and steardy so im not worried about balance but i still cant seem to walk on my left side i try but its as if its not there i almost drag it and shuffle along so put so much pressure on my arms that my shoulder goes into spasms, by the time i had got there i was so shakey and after lying for 30 minutes in the MRI with my legs and back twitching and jerking away when i got up my legs were numb and my left hand, and then it was the long walk back with rests.

Will go in chair next time though i do feel these new sticks are good for short distance walks and the exercises seem to make me stiff but also help a little so maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel!!

You are amazing and i would give yourself a day off tomorrow because i bet you wake up stiff as a bored!! id go in the chair tomorrow but it is nice to know you can do it!! i felt like that today!! even though it was a small way it was a long way to me!!!

Have a great weekend its 3.34pm here on friday afternoon and my three little darlings have arrived back from school on the free transport.

Bop yourself on the head three times, for leaving your wheelchair in the car.  What were you thinking?

Maybe you should have used one of those office chairs that have the wheels on them and had someone "wheel" you out to your car.  Always remember that if you forget or deliberatately) leave your wheelchair in your car.

Honey, PLEASE take care of yourself and stop trying to be SuperWoman.
