Thyroid?

by skarey, Sep 14, 2007 09:44AM
What kind of symptoms could a screwed up thyroid cause.  I'm wondering if my thyroid may be messed up.  I had a baby 6 months ago and heard that having a baby can mess with your thryoid functions.  Also my periods have been so weird since the onset of symptoms.  They are on time, but the duration and amount is completely off.  Either extreley heavy or barely even a spot.  Also my hair is falling out.  When I take a shower and wash my hair I get handful of hair. Could my other symptoms be thyroid related??  Don't know...I'm just lost.

I would get thyroid blood panel done.  I have a thyroid condirion and have all kinds of horrible symptoms.  Get a thyroid blood panel test done tsh ft4 ft3.  That should show any problems with your thyroid. After pregnancy thyroid problems often arise.  go to Doctor and get a thorough check up and also google thyroid symptoms and see if you have any of the symptoms.  Hair loss is a sign of hypothyroidism ,but so is hormonal flux after pregnancy.

Hope this helped LJ39

Hey skarey - I don't know too much about thryroid disorders, but I do know that while you are pregnant, your hair doesn't shed its natural amount (thus the beautiful mane of hair pregnant women often have).  Once you have your baby, everything kinda catches up, and you will sometimes seem to lose your hair all at once.  It might not be anything to worry about, but if you're concerned, I'd go see your doctor or OB.  Good luck!
