Time line rough draft for 1st Neuro appointment

Please let me know if I can make this any better. I know the organization could use some help as this is the best I could come with my brain not working right/normal.....and it's almost 2 pages....is it too long?

Dec '08  I had a very bad flu for 2 1/2 weeks, my fever ranged from 101 to 105.8F(the high fever for 1 day)

Jan '09, I was sitting in my recliner resting my knee when I suddenly felt tingling sensation from my right cheek to just above my right eye. Then I started seeing spots and kind of like a red-green film with bright white spots along the edge in my right eye vision and it seemed to get darker with my right eye open.My left eye was normal. If I close my right eye, the light level returns to normal. I started to get dizzy, like spinning. My heart started to race and had a cold sweat. Then my side vision for only my right eye went hazy then black for about 45 minutes. Luckily everything went back to normal.

About a month later, I was watching TV when I brushed my right hand against my blue jeans and it felt like a very soft blanket. It took me a little time to relies I didn’t have a soft blanket on, and ½ of my ring finger and pinky were numb mixed with pins and needles along with wrist, forearm, and upper arm (underside). It comes and goes threw out the day, its always there just changes in intensity.

by 3/20/09 , the pins and needles spread to the whole hand. ½ my wrist and forearm went numb and the other half felt like there was a dagger twisting along with electric shocks. My right hand seems to have some weakness and have a hard time holding things (cup, pen, etc.). I couldn't straighten or rotate my right arm without a sharp, stinging; tearing pain with an electric shock from my forearm. it reminds me of grabbing an electric fence. This electric pulse goes up my arm into my spine, muscle spasm follows this, and this pulse usually goes down to my legs

right eyeball pain when moving or focusing, my R eyeball jumps around, sees flashes of light, spots- dark, color, or bright white,or something dark in the side or corner of my right eye. My vision sometimes get hazy, blurry, dim in 1 eye or too bright. my kids have told me my pupils are not the same size when its too bright. if I close my eyes or go in a dark room, I feel as if I’m spinning. my left and right eye do not always agree on what shade of red I'm looking at

April 2010, my left eye vision is dim and jumps around.  the other night I was watching tv (no other lights on) my left eye ball didn't feel right. when I closed my right eye, everything was darker even the tv.

sometimes after a hot shower or I get over heated, my right arm and leg started shaking/big muscle spasms and didn’t stop until I cool down........the last 3 years, mainly during the summer I noticed heat seems to make what ever this is worse; I feel dizzy/spinning/spacey. I remember feeling this 2 summer's ago but it wasn’t as severe; once I cooled down it when away. I get this weird painful thing around my right shoulder blade and into my right ribs mainly on my right side when it started.if I did know any better I'd swear it feels like my muscles have turned in to metal and can't move with out a lot of pain or I broke a rib. it hurts to take a deep breath and my right arm barely can move and is useless until what ever this goes away (4-9 days). it was hard the breathe in, think of a constricting type snake squeezing you or getting a tight bear hug; you can breathe out fine, but it hurts to breathe in. Last summer, I was 100% disabled by this heat intolerance. I have to stay above 70F for some of my problems, but can't go over 73F now days before I feel it; last year it was 75F before I felt it badly

I do get a tight band or charlie horse feeling in my right calf. its lasts for 2 days to about 2 weeks. it hurts to stand, walk or lay down to sleep. usually I have lots of vertigo, tingling, pins/needles, numbness, off-balanced, dragging my right foot or my right eye is going nuts when the calf or weird/pain in my rib cage/shoulder start up.

June 1 09, a t-storm took 2 branches down the night before, I had to saw them off the trees. Normally this isn’t a problem; in the past I could trim all 5 plum trees without much of a problem; I might be a little tired and sore but it’s manageable. I barely had the strength or energy to complete cutting 2 downed branches from that storm. I went inside when I realized my right leg was stuck; not physically, I can see my leg, but I couldn't feel or control it. When I went inside I was exhausted and had to rest; my R hand felt tingling, I felt spacey. My R leg felt like jello and I had a hard time lift my R foot; once I cooled down my R leg went back to normal.

Vertigo is my 4th major symptoms of my weird neurological symptoms . last summer, I lived  with vertigo every single day. it was worse in the hot summer afternoons, but by then I was already stuck on the couch or my bed.

for some unknown reason usually between noon-4pm, I feel as if all my energy is suddenly drained and very fatigue and all symptoms get worse. it doesn't matter if I had a good night sleep or not.

Sometimes I feel a electric shock in my neck/spine (if I looking down mostly, but sometimes up) and also in legs and right arm

I sometimes I feel very itchy, numbness, muscle spasms, tight muscles, muscle weakness, pins and needles, tingling for no reason

bladder and bowel problems. had bladder problem 5 or so years ago for 6 months then disappeared, until 4/'09 to 10/ 09, then started up Feb '10 with the bowels following a few weeks later

I'm been using the wrong word from time to time, for example, '(son), can you give me that paperclip?' when I’m pointing at a close pin. While I was talking, I was a little overheated I got slightly dizzy and lightheaded, I had picture in my head, but couldn't bring the words to mind; when I thought close pin I said paper clip. I either forget what I'm talking about in mid sentence, use the wrong word, losing nouns,  or have memory recall problems. My memory was good. I could have remembered everything I need to get from several stores and not forget a thing, but now days when this symptom is active. I have to write a list, but I may not be able to read it later because I sometimes forget what sounds the letters in the word(s) make.

around may '09, I started experiencing numbness/tingling that follows the nerve above my right eye. it lasts a few seconds to maybe a minutes or two; it goes around my eye and moves down my cheek and stops on my upper right lip or I get one that follows my jaw to my lower lip. just barely in my hair line (right side only)I feel pain/burning. In Feb '10, it changed to a electric type pain. it hung around 2 day (on and off multiple times through out the day- this lasts anywhere from a day to 2 weeks) then disappeared.it was just above my right eye and the other one was just below my R eye on/in my check bone. I still get tingling/kinda numb feeling down this nerves..this includes most of my teeth on my right side. a few months ago, all my teeth on my right side felt as if they all had big cavities with electric shocks. my face (right side) was also getting these jolts.

I've also notice 1/2 my tongue (right side) doesn't feel normal. kinda tingling can't feel it 100%. I slur when this happens .my esophagus felt like it was burning (new symptom Feb '10) for 3 day. I 1st thought I had heart burn until I took a drink of cold water.

my dentist checked my teeth even tapped them with handle part of the mirror(there ok), she checked my jaw to see if its aligned right (it is), she couldn't find anything wrong.

as soon as the summer heat left all my weird symptoms left in reverse order. now that it is  starting to warm up or when I get overheated, those weird symptoms are returning in the same order. I did get to enjoy 6 weeks symptom free not including heat-induced

Dec '08  I had a very bad flu for 2 1/2 weeks)

Jan '09,  I felt tingling sensation from my right cheek to just above my right eye. Then I started seeing spots and kind of like a red-green film with bright white spots along the edge in my right eye vision and it seemed to get darker with my right eye open.My left eye was normal. I felt dizzy, like spinning. the side vision for only my right eye went hazy then black for about 45 minutes.

Feb '09,  ½ of my ring finger and pinky were numb mixed with pins and needles along with wrist, forearm, and upper arm (underside). It comes and goes threw out the day, its always there just changes in intensity.

3/19/09 stinging electric type pain in right forearm around the bone begins and continues until 5/10/09 . skin on right arm is very itchy around right wrist, elbow, forearm, and hand. If I moved my arm, the muscles felt as if they were being shocked and torn.

3/20/09 , the pins and needles spread to the whole hand. ½ my wrist and forearm went numb. My right hand has some weakness and hard time holding things (cup, pen, etc.). I couldn't straighten or rotate my right arm without a sharp, stinging; tearing pain with an electric shock from my forearm.

4/3/09 off balance when standing or walking. I felt an electric pulsing threw my spine and legs.

4/9/09 ¼ of numb part of arm, closer to elbow, seems to have normal sensations again. The rest can now feel more then just pressure when pressed on, but slightly delayed with a lighter degree of numbness. the shocking, stinging pain when moving arm continues. fingers feel pins and needles and/or slight numbness continues

4/10/09  dizzy spinning spells begin and continues until 10/09. moving my neck down/up I feel a electric shock in neck. Pins and needles in my right foot, big toe is numb.  flashes of light began, right eyeball is achy when it moves.  between noon-4pm, I feel as if all my energy is suddenly drained and very fatigue begins and all symptoms get worse.

4/15/09 right arm and leg started shaking and wouldn’t stop until I cooled down

4/18/09 bladder problems - urergentcy, and then I can't go. had simiar problem 5 ago for 6 months then disappeared, until 4/'09 to 10/ 09

4/19/09 Start using the wrong word. For example, (son), can you give me that paperclip when I’m pointing at a close pin. While I was talking, I was a little overheated I got slightly dizzy. I thought close pin but I said paper clip.

4/20/09 right shoulder blade to my right ribs mainly on my right side starts to feel like getting a tight bear hug. can breathe out fine, but it hurts to breathe in. last any where from 4 to 9 days

4/28/09  right eye ball starts jerking, jumpy vision

5/7/09 balance is off and I can’t close my eyes without a spinning sensation.

5/10/09 right forearm was numb until 9pm when it got extremely itchy for 3 ½ hours then went numb. Both my legs became itchy also, just less intense. When I touch my arm, it still doesn’t feel normal, my finger feels like a dagger and the pain is delayed, I feel a shocking pain from my forearm to right thumb with movement. When I tap my thumb and index fingers together, I feel something weird in my spine it make me jerk and/or sway, my stomach becomes unsettled.

5/11/09 right forearm started to go numb again unless I stretch out or rotated my arm. My fingers, both hands, have pins and needles. My right eye hurts on the back side. jumpy and doulbe vision.

5/12/09, I started experiencing numbness/tingling one goes up around my eye and/or moves down my cheek and stops on my upper right lip or I get one that follows my jaw to my lower lip. just barely in my hair line (right side only)I feel pain/burning.it lasts a few seconds to maybe a minutes or two. tingling on my tongue

5/17/09 right eyeball pain increases to sharp and stabbing the vision was dim and blurry.  both my feet and left calf cramping. My feet felt they were going to fold in on themselves and my calf felt it had a charley horse in the middle of the muscle or a very tight band for 3 days straight. left side cramping goes and right calf cramps and extremely itchy

May '09, I started experiencing numbness/tingling one goes up around my eye and/or moves down my cheek and stops on my upper right lip or I get one that follows my jaw to my lower lip. just barely in my hair line (right side only)I feel pain/burning.it lasts a few seconds to maybe a minutes or two.

6/15/09 felt a vibration in my spine, arms (more on R side), and R leg/toes. My R side felt weak and heavy.my tongue doesn’t feel right and it’s hard to swallow.

July threw late Sept '09 all symptoms are worse in the hot summer afternoon. as soon as the summer heat left all my weird symptoms left in reverse order. now that it is  starting to warm up or when I get overheated, those weird symptoms are returning mostly in the same order. I did get to enjoy 6 weeks symptom free not including heat-induced

Jan '2010, shocks on Right side of face begin and continues

In Feb '10, face tingling changes to a electric type pain. it hung around 3 days (on and off multiple times through out the day- this lasts anywhere from a day to 2 weeks) then disappeared.it was just above my right eye and the other one was just below my R eye on/in my check bone. I still get tingling/kinda numb feeling in this area. this includes most of my teeth on my right side.  all my teeth on my right side felt as if they all had big cavities with electric shocks. my face (right side) was also getting these jolts. bladder  problems started up with the bowels following a few weeks later. 1/2 my tongue (right side) doesn't feel normal. kinda tingling can't feel it 100%. April 2010, my left eye vision is dim and jumps around.  the other night I was watching tv (no other lights on) my left eye ball didn't feel right. when I closed my right eye, everything was darker even the tv.

April 6 2010 electric shocks down my back, my right leg and arm, left big toe (new) and both sides of my face (left side is new). tingling, pin and needles were also in my face. my right ear was ringing very loud (new) for 2 days. my right calf was very stiff.  When I woke up, I discovered I wet and defecated in my bed.  did this three more times that night. there wasn't a warning at all, I just went. this is still going on or there is leakage

Hi Phoenix - Terri is right in that this is an excellent journal for you to keep.  now your job is to pare it down for the neuro to be able to glance at and understand the range of your symptoms.  They don't want the back story, they just want the date and what happened.

Dec. 2008 - bad flu that lasted for 2.5 weeks

Jan. 2009 - lost vision in right eye for 45 minutes

March 2009 - numbness in hand began and is still present

you get the idea here .... and yes, you definitely have to mention the bladder and bowel problems.  You won't be saying something the doctor has never heard before. Their job is to help you and they can't if they don't know what you have experienced.  I am so sorry that you have these problems, too.

You're smart to be doing this timeline - it can be very valuable if you make it fit into a format your doctor will read.

be well, Lulu

Hi,

Sorry to hear about all your symptoms the last few years.  I am currently in the same situation since 2003.  I am still in limboland at this time.

Since I just went through this last week with my neurologist, whom I have had for the last 7 years, I might be able to throw some tips your way.

I would absolutely keep your above time-line for your records, but for the neurologist I would try to break this down into the date/year and describe your symptoms in a brief way, because you can always then elaborate them with your neuro in discussion.

Doctors' tend to just want your history of symptoms, family history etc.

I only tell you this from my personal experience.  I also have been in the medical field for almost 30 years, but it was not until now that I have actually found out how important that this time-line and just outlining your symptoms can be to getting diagnosed.

You are definitely in the right place coming to this forum.  So many friends are amazing here.  Also in the top right corner of the page, look under the "Health Pages" for great information.

Take care and the best of luck to you...

Terri

I have to fit this in too even if its embarrassing

the night April 6 2010 was rough on me. I only got 1/2 an hour of sleep before my weird symptoms woke me up, some were new and/or in new spots and/or some on the other side (left).

electric shocks down my back, my right leg and arm, left big toe (new) and both sides of my face (left side is new). tingling, pin and needles were also in my face. my right ear was ringing very loud (new) for 2 days. my right calf was very stiff.  When I woke up, I discovered I wet and defecated in my bed. I'm so embarrassed as I did this three more times that night. there wasn't a warning at all, I just went.
