Uh-Oh Vertigo is back but it's not the same as the last time..

Hi there, I've been on the forum for a few hours tonight reading old posts about vertigo. Some were interesting to read. However I still have some questions. I appologize if this topic is redundant but things don't seem to be as interesting unless you can relate to them at that moment, sorry about that.

So for the past few weeks the symptom of what I think is vertigo has been coming and going seem to be mostly later in the day. I do have frequent lightheadedness throughout the day but not constantly. When I think I'm getting vertigo I feel like things are moving/wobbling beneath me. Such as, the floor or my bed. It's a strange sensation one that I'm not familiar with. It only last seconds so far. My last issue with vertigo was Aug 08 8wks post hysterectomy, which was a room spinning sensation and I was able to reproduce it turning to my left side.

Anyone can relate to this new vertigo symptom? How much of this is MS related?? is there one type of sensation that is more specific to MS?? My last vertigo issue I was seen by an EENT and told me the vertigo was not an inner ear issue.

Hi.. Vertigo was my first symptom 5 years ago... my vertigo is hard to discribe.. the room feel like it moves back and forth..I will fall over if I don't hold on to something and sit down or lay down.. it can last for 5 min to 1/2 hours.. then I'm exhausted...

I wll sometime get the feeling like it will happen and it will get me to sit down...lightheaded feeling.. mostly after a shower or at any time really.

it really a horrible feeling.. I cannot move my head or it gets worse.. I cannot lift my head from where I lay it.. I get nauseated as well.. once in awhile I will throw up..

the Dr didn't know why I got them at the beginning as they said it wasn't normal vertigo..??  I've had them when I was at the appt and in the hosptial..they didn't understand them.. I've had ENT testing a few times and they said not my ears..must be neuro..

I still get them now.. every so often.. I wonder at times if taking new meds like gabapentin...which I'm uping the dose if that can make it worse?

I will have time when it doesn't effect me...but it comes back every few weeks or so..

take care and let us know how you feel

Hi, Shelley--

My vertigo is only of the "room has tilted sideways" type, which is very unnerving. I also may have some benign positional paroxysmal vertigo (BPPV) because any time I move my head in side-to-side motions or, heaven forfend, spin around, I become unsupportably dizzy and off balance, a room-spinning sensation--it's very unpleasant. Have you looked into BPPV?

I get the feeling of dizziness sometimes, just sitting around or standing, but it's pretty transient. I figure it's BP or oxygenation or blood sugar, but who knows?

My dx is not MS but "cervical myelopathy" that is not mechanical.

I'm hoping someone reads this and can describe their vertigo with me. I'm particularly interested in the "room floating" type. this is new to me. I've had the room spinning one but that was over a year ago.

I read on the net that this could be called Central vertigo???
