Uhthoff's Phenomenom - Does this sound like it?

I wasn't feeling well the other day and just had to take a REALLY HOT shower.  I'm allowed right? Since according to my doctors, no MS just Fibromyagia.

It felt really good at the time - but of course I felt weak afterwards and took a rest for awhile before dressing to go out to the food store for some much needed groceries.

I first pulled up to the market where I but my gluten-free products (I'm trying to be so good) - and as I started walking the short distance across the parking lot I got this overwhelmingly feeling that I was going to fall - but I didn't.

I just can't remember exactly where the feeling was coming from - or not coming from  - I think that my legs or leg? was just very weak and maybe the foot numbness was kicking in and I just couldn't really feel the ground?  but, I still had controll to make my legs go and managed to keep my balance?

I managed to get into the store, walk a few steps (it's a small store), grab a few things from the gluten-free area, get to the counter and pay - and back out and into my car.

It was really scary and I was in tears - I was fine driving home and had total control of the car - still wobbly getting back in the house - but then a little while later I seemed to be fine - although I was still scared to go out again thinking I might fall.

No hot shower for me today and I am doing much better.

Anyway, does this sound like Uthoff's to anyone?

Thanks, Julia

I also have Uhthoffs.  Yes, when I get over heated, I get what I refer to as a pseudo exacerbation.  As soon as I get cooled down, rehydrated, I get back to "my normal."   It doesn't matter what the outside temperature is either, it can happen in the winter months when it's zero degrees outside.  It's your core temperature.

It doesn't always have to be related to vision either as was originally thought.    I don't take hot showers at all.  In fact, if you look into how MS was originally dx'd before modern technology, they would put the person in a hot water bath and see if they displayed symptoms.   So, it would make sense that if you are heat sensitive that taking a hot shower and then going shopping would zap you of your energy and you would feel like you were having a relapse.

Watch those hot showers, Julia!!!   Make sure you keep yourself well hydrated from now on!!

I don't know if this is what related to what you're talking about. When I have very bad rigidity in my legs, I sometimes cannot stop myself from having a hot shower and letting the water run on my legs. I will get extremely tired, "foggy" and weak.

Similarly if I get overheated (which takes almost nothing these days) or even very tired, it feels like my whole nervous system shuts off. I can hardly move; I am told that I slur terribly and make no sense when I talk. Later my muscle will twitch and quiver, and still later the spasms begin. This is rather scary and my DH keeps trying to haul me off to the ER. I had 4 ice packs on me the other day. As an side, all my minerals test as normal, although I was Rxd a vitamin D supplement several months ago.
