Update On Face Pain

Hi there... I got an answer,  I went to a different dentist...She checked me  and took a xray.. tested my teeth, asked questions about where I have pain, etc. etc.  

she said a have a few things.. first off my gums on the right side of my mouth are Infected.. not good.. badly.  Also, I have TMJ, and she feels the infection probably flared up the TMJ.  Three of my teeth on the top right side are quite loose and she said I  should get them taken out.  But first need to deal with the infection.

I'm taking antibiotics now for the infection and pain meds to help with the pain.  Also still taking the meds the Neuro RX as it's supposed to help the TMJ

so finally after two weeks in face pain...very painful face pain.. I see light at the end of the tunnel...(except for having to get some teeth taken out) but lets not think of that right now...OK

also, why didn't the other dentist I used to use... see the infection and TMJ last week when I went and saw him, I had to go to the MS clinic, and another dentist to find answers????  

tell you, I'm feeling so much better,  still have some pain, but I know in a day or two it will be so much better..

Sounds like the new dentist is a keeper!!

Just wondering about my face pain now lol!!  Except I do have tingling and slight numbness top lip chin and check all on the right side so it is probably trigeminal neuralgia.

Anyway, glad you got to the bottom of it and hope your feeling better soon.

wanna hear somethign funny.  

i have right side face pain, right eye area dull throbbing pain and pain in my joint area there. sometimes the pain "feels" like it is going to the back of my head.

ok, so, i went to the dentist and the univerisity clinic (less money), they took exrays, and stuff. i had them extract my upper back tooth thinking that was the culprit.

dentist didn't think i needed it out. i thought i had lived with the pain long enough.

error! tooth, gone, exact some pain issue still there.

moral of the story:  this demyelinating disease thing trips me up! LOL

hope you are laughing. i miss that big molar too when i'm eating a steak or something.

I'm so glad to hear that you can go into this weekend with a treatment that offers real hope that you will be feeling better come Monday.  It's taken a while to get to the root (not really intended pun) of this pain.  It must seem like forever to you.

I can't remember if you said the other dentist took x-rays.  Even if he did, maybe the infection just wasn't showing up yet?  I wonder why dentists don't order blood work to check for changes related to infection.  Maybe they rely on the MD for that?  Or maybe it's because they can visualize their whole area of specialty using their eyes and x-rays?

Anyway, I'm rambling now.  I still think it's odd dentist #1 suggested removing teeth without direct evidence of why they were painful.  What if he had done that and released a bunch of infection into your bloodstream?  I'm sure that's why this dentist has you on antibiotics before starting any tooth removal.

Please keep your courage up and return for that permanent solution.  I'm not a dental fan either and understand it can be tempting to put off further treatment once the antibiltic gets the pain under control.  Like Mistylee says, this dentist sounds like a keeper.

Sorry about the extra pain. You sure do not need it. I get more face pain with Spring and sinuses. I wash my sinuses with salt and rinse and gargle with salt. It reduces swelling.I hope you feel better soon. Hang in there.

I hope you feel better!!! I'm dealing with facial pain as well as eye pain, my appointment on may 12th... Had to wait that long because of work!!! If it gets worse I'll try to get in sooner... No fun!! Take care!!!

Sorry about the face pain but it sounds you may have found the source of your pain. That in itself should be a relief.

I, too, have a fear of the dentist dating back to when I was 7 and he drilled a filling without novacaine. My sibling and I nicknamed him Lanster the  hamster because he had beady little brown eyes like the pet hamsters we kept.

Finish up your treatment and hopefully this will end your face pain for you.
