Greetings.  I hope you will have an enjoyable visit despite having this flare of symptoms.  Could it just be the crazy hot weather we have been having affected your MS?  I see you are up in Michigan?

Please do not let the horror tales of our US medical system scare you from treatment - if you don't think the ER is appropriate, one of the urgent care medical facilities should also be able to help you.  You do want to get on top of this if that is possible, before you get worse.

Be prepared to let the doctor who treats you know what treatment you think will work best - you know how you body reacts.  Getting a prescription for prednisone should not be too difficult.

good luck, Lu

Falarfaj - are you visiting someone here?  If so, they might have a primary care physician who be called and asked to see you.  good luck.

DV -  if the visit is done through urgent care, I would venture a guess - and it is only a guess - of less than $200.  About $150 for the face time with the doc and then the prednisone cost, which is a generic, pretty cheap drug.

An ER visit is a different animal - I'm not sure you can even get out of the ER for under $1,000 these days.

Those are just GUESSES from me - but that's my thinking.

Any idea what kind of price range falafaj might be facing for an exam and medication without insurance in this situation?

I'm so sorry that you are having a flair. That is not a nice way to visit us in the U.S.A

Tonya and Inny are right that the hospital can not turn you away. They have to at least check you over.

Some areas have something called urgent care centers. They are faster because they don't get possible heart attacks or car accident victims coming in on an ambulance etc. so maybe you could check the yellow pages of the phone book and see if they have one close to where you are.

Hope that you feel better and get the help that you need and are able to enjoy your visit!

Erin :)

Hello, I am sorry that you are having an Exacerbation now. that is what you are referring to right?

You can go to any Emergency Room and they (by Law) can not turn you away. Now let me add that they will Triage you to see if you are in any serious type of condition that requires 'Immediate" care.

If they think that you are ok, then they will refer you to a local doctor or the local Health Department.

What are the symptoms you are having right now?
