VEP and OCT

In 2005 at time of diagnosis, Visually Evoked Response test results were "severely damaged left optic nerve" and after a relapse a few years later, right eye moderately damaged.  While left eye strobe ended, photophobia and strange smoky blurring remained.  New neurologist ordered OCT which came back normal.  I know my vision and photophobia are not normal, in fact, they seem to be worsening.  Driving at night is worse than sunlight, though I wear sunglasses all year and sit with my back to the light as often as possible.  Have also developed some pain left eye.  Can the OCT result be normal when my eyes truly are not back to normal?

Yes, the OCT measures the thickness of the non-myelinated layer of the retina.  The VEP is looking for deceleration of signals caused by lesions on the myelin of the optic nerves.

Thinning on the OCT is considered evidence that there may be gliosis and damage to non-myelinated structures (like shrinking or atrophy) of the brain.

I have an abnormal VEP and MRI indicating ON, but a normal (for now) OCT.
