Visit with new neuro this morning

Good afternoon!  Hope everyone is having a great Monday.

I had my visit this morning with the new neurologist.   He told me that my MRI findings would not be a surprise if I was an 80 year old woman with a history of diabetes and smoking.  He wants to do some more testing.  I am having a VEP and also a Carotid Doppler Study.  He said he will start with  non-invasive testing, but if everything comes back normal, we may have to go to more invasive testing.

He also is sending me for additional blood work.  He is checking me for sjorgens (only because there is a history in my family) and the following blood tests:   serum protein electrophoresis;   serum immunoelectrophoresis;  tissue transglutaminase.  Also antigliadin iga( whatever those are!)

Anyway, all in all, I would say it was a positive visit.  I am glad that he didn't just brush me off.  It seems he will keep doing tests until we find out why my MRI is abnormal.

Thanks for listening!

Maureen

At least your Neuro seems to be moving forward with something.  VEP sound reasonable.  The Carotid Doppler is to make sure the arteries are not clogged trowing plaques for TIA or causing ischemic disease.  Sound like he is trying to rule some stuff out.  Hey, at least he is still thinking it through.

I sounds like he is really on the ball.  The tests he has ordered will help rule many 'mimics' out.  Sounds positive all the way around, and he isn't blowing you off----that's good.

The spep test and immunofixation are to test protein in your blood.  Have you had an elevated blood protein level?  this is the test they use to track my Multiple Myeloma.  (not to scare you)  I think it's also used to differentiate autoimune and imflamation disease.

my MRI is normal though, (well brain anyway I have spinal fractures)

Thanks for the explanation about those tests.  No, my protein levels have been fine.  I just looked over my blood work and it appears the protein are within normal limits.

I'm sorry to hear about your MM, i'm sure it must be very tough for you.
