Weakness in legs

Hi everyone,

OK, so I was DXd in July with RRMS.  It just seems like my legs are getting weaker and weaker.
I'm just wondering if that's typical?  Last Thurs night, it felt like I could barely stand or walk. I was thinking that I might have to go to the ER or something. Now, they're not as bad as they were, but still pretty weak.  And lately it's been a lot more difficult to get up from a kneeling position.
Is this just something than can be expected with MS?

Thanks,
Kelly

I'm glad we have Baclofen. I tried Tizanidine, and personally, it only made me feel sick & very sleepy.
When I switched to Baclofen - I was like, yes! finally something that works!

Kelly and Jen,

I'm in the same boat as both of you!  Some days are better than others.  I take 60 mg Baclofen (20 mg 3x/day).  I also take 4-AP, the compounded version of Ampyra.  It only helps a little, but hey!  I'll take anything I can get!

Hi Jen,

Sorry I'm late posting back to this. For some reason I never get e-mail alerts, and they can't figure out why. So, I always try to go back thru my posts every now and then to see if anyone responded.

Yes, I do have spinal lesions. (in fact I think I posted on one of your scans a couple months ago saying that mine kind of looks like it might be near the same area as yours). I have a  lesion between T9-10 & between C4-6 (on a 1.5T MRI)

You're right - sometimes my legs are worse than other times.  I went to see my neuro's PA and she thinks that I might be having a pseudo-relapse because of a possible infection. She thinks I have an infection since I had a fever of 99.9 when I went on Fri. However, I've had a fever every time I've been there for an appt. So...who knows. Maybe I have an infection that's asymptomatic.

Thanks,
Kelly

Hey, I have weakness in my legs, sometimes worse, sometimes better.  It sounds like you might have something going on with your back.  Have you ever had a spinal MRI?

The reason my legs are weak is because of spinal lesions.  Unfortunately the leg weakness was a relatively minor problem, compared to what's going on right now.  Right now the spinal lesions are causing my back and hips to spasm!

I'm taking Baclofen 6x a day, and with the current symptoms, I may need to upgrade to 7 a day.  I'm hoping that this recent downswing is because of a UTI - I don't want to take any more pills!

Kelly, Gabapentin is the generic Neurontin. Like Lyrica, Neurontin works on neuropathic pain such as parasthesias. It's not good for weakness.

You might ask your neuro about Ampyra. Google this for more info.

I'm hoping you'll feel better very fast.

Hugs,

ess

Hi Val,

I've been taking Baclofen for almost a year.  I've never heard of Gabapentin.
Does it make your legs less weak?

Thanks,
Kelly
