Weight gain due to meds

Help!  Can anyone suggest a med for severe nerve pain that doesn't cause weight gain, so I can go to my GP armed with a suggestion?  I've been on Doxepin for the last couple of months and before that another couple of tricyclic antidepressants for the pain and have gained so much weight that I am more depressed about the weight gain than having MS.

Many thanks

Poppy

Poppy, I lost my sense of taste from end of January to April 25 (had "half" taste on the 24th -- 'twas a good day!).  It was horrible on one hand, but probably helped with my weight loss goals over the almost three month period.  Make sure you keep eating healthy stuff anyway -- if you eat too little you'll mess up your metabolism.  Logging food on www.myfitnesspal.com helped me eat properly.

Yep, Amitriptyline started the problem then stopped killing the pain so I switched to Nortriptyline.  Killed the pain and the appetite BUT I didn't sleep a wink the whole week I took it.  Doxepin, aaargh..........

In the last couple of days I've completely lost my sense of taste, everything tastes the same, only thing that varies is the texture.  Even GF chocolate caramel square was bland last night and Nacho chips tasted like cardboard.  I hope whatever lesion has popped up for this one heals, or I might give up eating altogether.

Poppy.

I'll bet you were on amitriptyline.  I've lost 35 pounds since January, and since I started on this med all I want is sugar (I don't even like sugar, to any great extent).  Other than this it works really well -- hopefully I can power through the cravings.

I have been on a combination of gabapentin and amitriptilyne fropain in my feet. I've been taking the combo for about 9 months with no weight gain.

Poppy I am so new to all this I don't even know what meds u mean... However I have been reading about nutritional healing and I am planning to go gluenten free and partially diary free.
I have weight to lose and plan to be strict on myself for the next few months.
Especially since I assume I will be on DMD s soon and I do not look forward to the havoc I that will play on my system.

Do you think nutrition could beat the weight gain? Again I have no idea about all these meds ...

I have been taking Neurontin (actually gabapentin which is the generic) which I think is one of the go-to meds for nerve pain. It is an anticonvulsant and used to treat seizures, but is also used to treat nerve pain.

I have not had any issues with weight gain since I have been on it. I have had some issues with muscle weakness since my dosage was increased, but it has been mild, intermittent and is improving since it is a temporary side-effect. I have been please with the results. of this medication.
