What are these weird sensations around my lips?

From time to time, I get this weird, pinchy/tingly feeling either under my lips around my chin or on my lips themselves. It's a pressure that kind of hurts and feels like a pinch or something. I used to notice it when I'd get off the treadmill, but now, I'm beginning to experience it all the time. Usually it's towards the left of my mouth, but sometimes, it seems that it's all over.

I'm not diagnosed, so I don't know if I'm having a flare or if it's something else. It seems that there are some symptoms that go away for a few days and then come back, but I've read on here that flares usually last for months at a time. Sometimes, symptoms will disappear only to be replaced with new ones. ???? I get really confused when it comes to flares. Maybe because I've just started to really pay attention to it.

Thanks,

Mallory

I get a feeling like somebody has pinched my cheek - it's weird, isn't it?  I also get a twitching or pulling in that area, but I think they're two separate things.

Hi Mallory,

I get a similar feeling around my lips and sometimes the left upper lip will twitch.  This symptom usually flares with my numb/tingly left side of my face and lasts a few days.  It can make you crazy.  I also have not been diagnosed.  Am still waiting to see the neurologist after my MRI showed hypersensitivities in the white matter that are "not typical of MS".  I have found this forum very helpful.  My suggestion for you is to keep track of your symptoms and dates.  It will help when you go to the doctors.

These sensations are called paresthesias. Here's a Health Page on this topic:

http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Multiple-Sclerosis/Paresthesias---Things-That-Go-BUZZ-in-the-Night/show/378?cid=36

Flares don't have to last a month---24-48 hours is considered the minimum. They can last months at a time.  Flares do have to be separated by a month for them to be viewed as separate flares. You can have a series of symptoms during the same flare, and they don't have to start on the same day.

Hope this helps.
