What do I need to take for muscle spasms?

by Niecy40, Aug 01, 2009 07:54PM
I have been prescribed medication after medication, and nothing seems to be working. I have a neurologist, but I think maybe I need to see a Specialist for MS. I have been placed on  three different types of Meds. for MS. I am very frustrated. Can someone please offer some advice?

Hi! I don't know what kind of meds you have been tried but when I started having muscle spasms last year my neuro put me on Baclofen. They weren't just spasms, it was like you could feel a charlie horse coming on big time and sometimes the area where it was tight would jerk.

Anyway, the Baclofen did the trick and I hardly have any spasms/ jerks now. It even helped with headaches that none of my medicines seemed to help.

Good luck

Erin :)

I take zanaflex though when I'm having a really bad time with spasms it doesn't work as well as I would like. I hope this helps some. Blessings!

Hi Neicy,

Welcome to the forum, and if you've already been here, sorry to have missed you.

What have you tried so far? How long have you been dx'd and dealing w/the spasms?

Hope you are able to get back to us.  I'm on baclofen and it' keeps me fairly spasmless.

I am dealing with the dreaded spasms too.  I've been on a few different drugs, but finally found a combination of meds that helps me best.

Have you tried a combination of drugs?  Someone recently on our forum talked about taking baclofen and amityptaline.  That is somewhere to start if you haven't already.

As for me I take zanaflex and cymbalta.  So far it is keeping the spasms at least tolerable.

I hope you find something that works and soon.  Please let us know if we can be of any more help.

Take good care.

Julie
