When to go to the ER or wait for Neuro appt

Hello,

Last night I was at my ends wits. I have now developed burning on my tongue, roof of my mouth. pain in my right ear.  pain above my right eye, headache. I also can not tolerate any noise...not even my husband chewing his food, or the sound of someone turning the pages of a new paper.

I am also experiencing twitching all over my body when in bed, absolutly no energy, been in bed since Friday, burning and cold sensation in left forearmm, constipated to no end, and I can not tolerate even the TV to be on cause of the movement and changes in light, I am also feeling dizzy.

I am very unhappy, mad, angry, depressed, I cant do a darn thing. My daughter is having graduation photos tomorrow and I cant even help her find something to wear,

I have never been dx with MS and only treatment I have ever recieved in a medrol pack with very minimal relief for about 2-3 days.

Thanks everyone for listening and from now on no longer am I the frown girl....you can call me Dawn

Dawn

Are these symptoms considered emergency or should I call my primary doctor in the morning, I dont have an appt till Thursday with my new neuro doctor.

Dawn:

Have not seen you back here since you posted. Any changes?

I'm going to correct myself.

If your worst sx are intense headache, pain behind eye, light and noise sensitivity, stiff neck or neck pain, this could in fact be an medical emergency. If you start feeling nauseous or vomit and this feels like the worst headache of your life, I would definitely go to the ER.

Dawn:

As usual, these things just love to happen on the weekends.

You can call your PCP today; somebody should be on call to handle questions and advise you whether or not you should go to the emergency room. If you're lucky enough that your own PCP (as opposed to an on call doctor within a group practice) calls you back, maybe you can get a scrip today to help you through the rest of the day and then see the doctor tomorrow.

If you have any way to provide info on vitals, that might help. Temp, pulse rate, BP.

Don't see anything in your sx that would suggest an emergency situation, unless vitals are out of whack. Nothing suggests heart attack or stroke, but that is really up to the doctor on call.

It also helps if the doctor recommends that you go to the ER and calls the ER on your behalf. They'll know  at the hospital that you are coming and this usually bumps you up in terms of being seen.

Always a hard judgment call.

Can understand your frustration...hope you get some relief to your sx for the rest of the day.

Hi, Dawn. I'm so sorry you're feeling terribly sick.

It's really a judgment call as to when to go to the ER. If you don't feel you can wait, then go, absolutely. I have a feeling they'll tell you you're having a migraine, because that happens very often. But still, they may give you something to help with the pain. Also, it provides another record for your file.

It's good you have an appt this week with your neuro. Why not see your PCP as well? At least then he/she can rule out infection, etc.

Hoping you feel much better soon,

ess
