Where are my muscles going......

HI, I was hoping someone could help me out here.

I seem to be loosing all my muscles definition/size in my legs, mostly in my calves which have been driving me mad with cramps and spasms. They constantly seem to ache too. I found out yesterday I had a raised level of CK muscles enzymes, I am still trying to figure out what that means. But my questions is could the 2 be related? I can walk etc so I don't think the muscle wastage is due to non use.

Any advice would be great...thanks

Thanks Quix...hope the eyes are ok?

You have answered a big question for me. I wondered whether these blasted cramps and spasms could be causing the CK level to rise.

Thanks Quix

a real quickie.  Hard worked muscles, which includes working out, spasms and losng-lasting cramps and seizures all damage the muscles (temporarily) and raise the CK creatine kinase. Q

Here is what Quix sent me when my EMG was abnormal and my doctor mentioned muscle diseases.

Best sites:

Muscular Dystrophy and all Muscular Diseases

For Movement disorders like RLS or Myoclonus

There is alot of info on both sites.  Good luck in your research and I will be praying for you!

Hi Everyone and thanks for the mesages and advice.

I had an appointment today (Samantha - she was actually so nice..will explain more in other post we have going).  Anyway, she explained about the connection between the CK level, spasms, cramps and muscles wastage. Apparantly, as I was told yesterday by another clever bod on here, it does mean that their is muscles damage when the level is raised.  My doctor also explained about the delayed signals the ms dr found yesterday.  I also asked her, because I am loosing my muscles strength would this be a big part of why I only have to walk up the stairs and they go so wobbly...obvious I guess but it was good to hear her clear and unrushed explaination.

Fishyfish - I am really interested in what do you said in your post about MD. I've been thinking may be that's why he was so keen to focus on things like the cramps, spasms, twitiches and wastage etc.  That's one of the reason I said I was so confused yesterday after my appointment as I am now under an MS dr but would he also deal with other conditions and patients..other than MS? Although he said that I find myself being seen by him because of the obvious signs which they belief may point to ms I did get the distinct feeling, although nothing was said, that there was something else on his mind. He also kept talking about the long term prognosis and how it doesn't have to be a bad one but I'm afraid all I can think about right now is...well right now and the problems that i'm dealing with today not years down the line. I need to get over these first.

I don't know anything about md but I think there are many different types....but not sure.

I don't know a whole lot about this issue, but when I had my EMG test, it came back slightly abnormal, and my doc ordered a total CK test to rule out Muscular Dystrophy.  My CK test came back negative, and since I had no muscular issues, MD was ruled out.  Since you have those symptoms, perhaps that is the angle your doctors are persuing.

Good luck!

Dont enough about the causes but I would imagine they are related as ck levels get high with muscle damage and you sound like you have some muscle wastage so I would imagine the two are connected . Please can someone correct this if I,m wrong. I think there can be many causes eg even not eating enough can cause your body to start utilising other sources of energy ck gets released into bloodstream instead of being used for muscle function Something along those lines anyway xxchris
