Will I be able to go fishing or not???

Will I be able to go fishing or not???

Well the day started out good...leveled off to going smoothly trying to get the last minute stuff done for the holiday and WHAM!!

My little psycho puppy Kayleigh had a run in with a nail on the fence in our back yard whilst attempting to be the fearless squirrel hunting lioness I dreamt she was last night in one of my medication induced dreams...

We have a little squirrel that runs back and forth along the top of the fence at the back of our yard and Kayleigh tries to catch it...she can jump to the top of the fence where she grabs on to it with her teeth so she can stay up longer to look down the fence line for the squirrel.  Well today a nail in the fence bit back!

Kayleigh is now at the vet's office being sedated so they can stitch up her poor scrawny little leg :((  The wound is about 2 inches long and in a leg that is only about 10 inches long that takes up a lot of leg!  I did try to clean it but the bleeding was so bad and she was crying so much I figured that this was something better suited for the vet to handle.

So, they are going to call me when she is ready to be picked up along with her new stitches, her antibiotics and a hefty vet bill I imagine (but that is what VISA is for right?).  They said we can still go camping...just keep her out of the water, keep her clean...keep her from running around too much...HA HA HA

SHE'S A DOG IN THE WOODS WHERE THERE WILL BE THOUSANDS OF THE ROTTEN LITTLE SQUIRRELS TEASING HER TO CHASE THEM!!! Yeah...I am gonna be able to keep a border collie/terrier quiet and clean???

I will let you know if we are going on our trip tomorrow...doesn't look too promising to me...whadda ya think?

Poor little Kayleigh!  I'm so sorry for all of you!

I suppose putting her on a lead tied to a tree where she's out of danger is out of the question; she'd probably go crazy for the first squirrel that happened by and almost strangle herself trying to go after it.  I do think they like teasing dogs!

Maybe she'll have to wear one of those collar thingys so she can't pull out her stitches, and will be to embarrassed to go running around?  Well, Fluffy was really not happy when he had to wear one, but then, he's a cat.

Oh, I hope you can figure out how to make it work, I know how you have been looking forward to this!  How expensive would bording her be,at a place where they take injured pets.  My vet has a boarding facility attached, and the people are trained at the vet's office.  Kind of expensive, but doable.  Again, this is a cat's place.  Fluffy hated it, since he's such a big boy, and hasn't been around other cat's for several years.

Wishing you the best,

Kathy

Well.  we usually put her on a tag line anyway but she usually manages to drive us nuts by getting tangled around either tree it's tied to...then we tried one of the screws you put in the ground but she still manages to find something to get tied up with he he

I have a cone from my last dog, Kassy and I am sure it will fit but she ain't gonna like it but I imagine she will need it cause she's always picking and licking at something...I don't say there are too many trees that the cone will fit between so it might slow her down but she could hurt herself pretty bad too so I don't know what we will do.  I just had a call from hubby from work and he is pretty upset...I just say accidents happen and if we have to leave a day or two later so be it...what else can you do?

I wouldn't dream of boarding her...she is so spoiled and she would be miserable and make herself so sick that it just wouldn't be worth it.  Even putting her in the small kennels at the vets sends her into a panic...the guy that had her before us would put her in a closet in his basement suite where the furnace was and no lights and would be gone 16 hours a day!  It was no wonder she was hard to calm down when we got her...she probably thought that being in the dark was her lot in life and when she came here and has her own easy chair in front of the living room window, well I think she died and went to heaven a few times the poor little thing.

Anyway, I will let you know how she makes out when I go get her and we will take it from there I guess...I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Lots of Hugs,

Rena

Oh, poor little Kayleigh, she sounds like a sweetheart.

I have a bloodhound named Sadie and she gets beside herself trying to get to the squirrels in our yard.  We have a screened porch in the back and she will bay at them for hours.  Sadie isn't allowed off leash cause she would be off trailing and I would never find her, but when we are out walking she drags me every where trying to catch the squirrels!

You take care of your baby and I hope she gets well soon.  Have you thought about buying a baby play pen to keep her in while you are camping?  That would at least keep her safe.

Hugs

Oh, poor puppy!  That must have been pretty scary for you guys.  Dogs and cats are like kids to us.  When they get hurt, we feel their pain too.  She will recover pretty well though, but the vet is right about not letting her do much especially outside until she heals.  So, is there anyone you know who might be willing to pet sit for a few days?  That's really asking a lot.  Can you postpone your trip or do you guys have reservations somewhere?  I know how much you were looking forward to the trip.  So, was I because I was looking forward to hearing about how it went when you got back.  I hope this works out one way or the other.  Take care.

well, that's horrible about you pup...not an easy thing....and when you want to go away.

I hope you can make your holiday, you deserve some time away from it all... can you find a sitter??  I'd help out if I lived closer....

hope it works out..

I'm so sorry for Kayleigh. She's so fortunate to have you as her "attendant". Has she ever been crated? That way she could be either in the boat or on the dock right beside you, not on a leash, still enjoy the outdoors, and yet be safe. I have some experience with border collies. I had a pup who would find a way to jump out of a 5 foot chain-link pen, but was very happy to be crated at night, and while I was gone to work. Even after I got home, after the manic greetings, eating, playing etc., would voluntarily go to her crate to sleep. With the door open. She would still be there in the morning. When I got ready for work, all I had to do was tell her to "crate up" and in she would run. It's really the safest place for a pet.  I also crate my Chihuahua. As soon as she's in, with a treat and toy, she's perfectly happy. No whining or barking.

Something to consider, for what it's worth.  Hope your trip is still on the table, and that you have a wonderful time.....Happy fishing.

Hugs & Prayers to you and Kayleigh....Maggie

I sure appreciate all the ideas offered to help with Kayleigh but she is doing pretty good considering.  She was pretty stoned last night and her eyes were really glassy and she was walking sideways but today it's as though nothing happened!  She is a pretty resilient little thing and seems to survive the worst of things (ie getting drunk, eating prednisone, walking on my dining room table).  I will post a picture of her on my photos with her sore leg...pooooorrrrr puppy :(

Seriously, she is doing really well and hasn't bothered the bandage much...tried to put the cone on her head and she went crazy!  Don't think I will try that again! hehe

So, Now it's pouring down rain but we are going anyway...just have to get our showers and put the frozen stuff in the cooler and fridge and we are off

So, I hope everyone stays well while I am gone and I hope I do too! hehe  We will be back by the 21st at the latest and hopefully I can catch a BIG TROUT so that I have something good to show Cowboy!

Take care all and see you in about 10 days!

Lots of Hugs,

Rena

Even if she is miserable I would imagine she will be happier with her mamma...

Kayleigh is my daughter's name only spelled differently (Kailee is mine)... I used  to just tell her that it was a name that was Irish in oirigin, but we found that it was also a name for an Irish house party.

So if you are fishing and run into anyone and the questions about the wound  start getting annoying...

or you just want to make her seem brave, maybe you could entertain yourself with a story of bravery, of a house party gone awary(only speeled right) or something and how   Kayleigh saved the day by ridding the party of the evil party crashing squirls..... A fish tail that you tell before you leave the river....

Have fun Rena!!

Erin
