I thought it could be a problem when there was no response as the neuro checked this a number of times.

I SHOULD OF CLARIFIED MYSELF, NEURO'S ARE MAINLY CONCERNED WITH THE BIG TOE GOING UPWARDS AND THE TOES FLAIRING OUT.
THIS IS CONCERN FOR A NEUROLOGIGAL DISORDER.

LA, that is basically exactly what my feet do. Are we sharing feet? These days, I'm not sure who's got my feet. It doesn't appear to be me. ;-)

Interesting. I have downgoing response on my left side. On my right side my big toe does not move but my other toes flare out. The doctor has never said anything about it and I have never asked.

Well, my day is good cause I just learned something new!!! Thanks, T and Bio!!!
I'll add that some literature suggests that a downgoing response on one side coupled with a no response on the other may be cause for concern.

TERRICS,
THE PLANTAR REFLEX IS THE SAME IN LAMENS TERM AS THE BABINSKI REFLEX.
THERE'S USUALLY 3 RESPONSES THAT CAN BE ACHEIVED WHEN A NEURO USES AN INSTRUMENT TO RUB DOWN THE HEEL AREA OF THE FOOT TO THE TOES(THE METATARSAL PAD)
1. THE BIG TOE POINTS DOWN WARDS
2.INDIFFERENT---NO REPONSE
3.THE BIG TOE RAISES UP TOWARDS THE FOOT AND THE REST OF THE TOES FLAIR OUTWARDS.
THE PLANTAR AND THE BABINSKI REFLEX TEXT IS ONE IN THE SAME(BABINSKI, A SCIENTIST DISCOVERED THIS TESTING)
A NO RESPONSE IS A NORMAL RESPONSE.
HOPE THIS HELPS SOME----THIS TEST CAN BE SUBJECTIVE IF NOT DONE CORRECTLY.
