amitrytiline

Hi guys, I am on amitriptyline now, just 25mgs. at night.  I am craving sweets, and seeing to have the oddest feeling in my ears.s  I feel like I have been under water, and it affects my balance.  It also makes me feel quite ill.

I have more twitching, and more jerking since I have been on this drug.  I have read about the side effects, and mine seem to be rare, and saying I should be contacting the Dr. which I will be doing tomorrow.  ( or the MS clinic anyways) .....

Has anyone else reacted to this med, and if so, what was given instead???

Thxs, for listening,
Candy

I was prescribed Nortriptyline by a hospital neuro, and it has worked well for me. It is a relative of Amitryptyline.  I was originally on 35mg, but tried 25mg and 20mg to see if the lower dose would make it easier to wake up in the morning. I found 25mg was pretty good, but I did sleep better at 35. 20mg was too little.

The trick for me is to take it by 8pm. Then, it is easier to get going in the mornings.

I don't know if it affected my sense of taste or sweet cravings as I already had
both before I started it. ;)

Anyway, if you decide the amitryptiline isn't going to work, you could ask your doc about nortriptyline to see if it works better for you.

Hi Sarah, it is nice to hear from you, been a long time it seems.

I am going to cut the 25mgs. in half and try that, and hoping it works, did you find that you gained weight at such a small dose?

I am really concerned about that, and how I craved sweets, chocolate, ice cream,, even candies.... and I don't usually eat that stuff.

Anyways, I will try that, hope you are doing well.

I have been on a tiny dose for ages and just take half a 10mg tablet at might.  I found that on 20mg I was zombied out in the morning so reduced this back to 10mg and then eventually took it back to 5mg which for me seems to helps me sleep comfortably, whether psychological or not..it does the trick. I tried stopping it but found I slept badly so consultant suggested just carry on even if such a small dose

So my suggestion is why not try taking 10mg and see how that works. talk to your Dr.  I am assuming you were prescribed it to help with neurological symptoms and sleep?

Love Sarah x

I am supposed to be on this drug for headaches. I could not function properly in the morning after taking this at night. I am on a low dosage aswell. They just make me very tired and already I struggle with fatigue. I am reluctant to take this medicine. Hope you get sorted soon.
