another vision question

Any one else have a vision field test that shows blind spots in their central vision with out having had ON in that eye?

The VER I had 3 years ago showed my left eye was ok and so did the OCT I just had two weeks ago.

I have had vision field tests done on my left eye all along.  My eye doctor tests both eyes.

My left eye started showing blind spots about 6 months ago.  Before then my left eye was good.

I am wondering if the vision field tests can show problems before the VER or OCT.

Any ideas?

I am trying to gather information so I know how far to go with this silly mess.  I doubt my original MS doctor would agree with that last guy in taking away my DMD's just because I am a "mild" case of MS.

I'm not sure I can help. I broke up my paragraph so its easier to read

I had a couple vision field test last summer when my right eye was acting up the first time.

left eye was normal, but my right eye was working at 20%.  the doctor couldn't tell me why.

both eyeball were in perfect health. he thought there might be a problem with my optic nerve, so I'm still at a loss as why he didn't send me in for a MRI.

I did get sent to another eye doctor (that wouldn't listen to me about sx that didn't involve my eye, like the 1st eye doc did) that doctor told me eye migraine

as soon as the summer heat left all my weird sx left in reverse order, including my vision problem. now that's starting to warm up or I get overheated, those weird sx are returning in the same order :(

I hope you can get this eye problem solved soon and you get back on DMD.

I'm not dx'd with MS or ON

Hi there,
I have had blind spots in my central vision field tests, palor of my optic disc, slits in the nerve fibre and an abnormal VEP.

I have had no lesions show up at all in my brain MRI but apparently for ON they need to do the slices finer, so ON is not always detected on MRI.

As for my diagnosis I am not sure anymore, my notes from my first ophalmologist says that I had clinically a diagnosis of ON.

My second opinion on this last year from another eye doctor seemed to think that I had ON but my field tests are normal now, (this episode of ON was from years ago), my current neuro I don't think is convinced that it was ON but I must admit we have not discussed that in depth as I have always felt that I have had so many other things I have wanted to address when I see him.

My current neuro is not the first neuro that I have seen, he is number two.

Not sure if this info helped you at all.
Udkas. (also not diagnosed with MS)

Hi Udkas and Phoenix,
Thank you.  So many eye questions!  I have an offical dx of ON in my right eye.  Nerve damage and all.  Now my left eye is showing blind spots :(

Too bad we don't think to ask our doctors these questions when we are in the office.  Or at least that is true for me.

I don't think the visual field test findings are confined to demonstrating optic nerve damage.  (Sorry, this may not be the good news you were looking for.)

I can remember my mother having this test done after having a bleed into the occipital area of her brain.  The test showed a total black out of the lower right field of vision in both eyes, just as the neurosurgeon had predicted.  Of course there was nothing wrong with either eye or either optic nerve at all.  It was the damage done to a specific spot in the brain that could no longer receive or interpret the signal it was sent.

I'm not sure if there are different tests that can determine where damage is occurring.  I certainly hope your test isn't indicating any lesion activity in the brain.  And I could very possibly be way off base here on where lesions are even likely to occur.  I don't feel like I'm thinking the clearest tonight.

Best put that on your list of questions for the next visit and then (please) let us know.
