atypical MS? working on a dx and looking for your thoughts

by ny12345, Nov 03, 2009 04:03PM
My 48 yo DH is going through the process of diagnosis following a seizure a few weeks ago in his sleep. We've been trying to think back and identify any other neurological issues he may have had and the only thing is several bouts of vertigo he experienced over the summer - usually after he went swimming. We assumed the head turning, flip turns etc caused positional vertigo since he's always had a sensitive vestibular system. but now who knows. Ok, so we have vertigo in august, and a seizure in october. No visual, motor, sensory issues. Several neuro exams all normal.  No fatigue, headaches or anything else I understand to be part of MS. His MRI shows lesions "suggestive of MS" - nonenhancing. He has had blood work that is almost entirely normal - CBC, liver panel, clotting disorder screen and Lyme. His ANA was elevated but only 1:160 which is , according to the rheum. , not so impressive and not what you'd expect to see with Lupus. I feel like we are slowly ruling out other options other than MS. He is going to have a lumbar puncture but other than that... what else is there? any thoughts?

I think alot of MS is atypical and that is why it is so difficult to Dx for alot of people.  I gather he is seeing a Neurologist... and the Rheum is saying it not Lupus... I know it takes awhile to get a Dx at times. I hope he gets answer from the LP...when is he getting it done?

if that is positive...it should give him and you answers to your questions..

Let us know how things progress...
take care
